My experience in this game has been nothing but negative and harassive.

And yes, you can please everyone, make a new league (call it carebear for all I care) without a death penalty and with loot strictly personal (d3 style).
Flame on!

This. I'd be fine if the league never allowed any trading as well.
In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

I'd ask if I could have your stuff but seems like you were to slow to pick anything worth having up :(

Only post worth reading.
No loot options at OB launch was the biggest mistake that GGG has made to date!

Prior to launch I tried to make them see the issues with consequence free "cut throat" looting. Sadly they were stuck in the past and the poor game decision cost them many players.

Hopefully when loot options are FINALY added and more content is available some of the players that were driven away will return.

Personally I would like to play more but I have been too busy with real life...

That is not a problem with this game, it's a problem with people in general. It is even worse in real life. People are people and if you don't want to deal with it, don't deal with people.

If people are indeed like this, wouldn't it make sense for software intended to be used by people to take this into account?

I mean, there is a reason that many games award loot in a way that does not allow the possibility of someone "stealing" loot the game had generated for someone else...

That is just it... There are other games designed in a way you find appropriate. It is OK that a game (or even game mode as it were) exists that does not tickle your fancy. This game doesnt 'generate loot for specific people', it generates loot, and gives someone a brief opportunity to get the loot before anyone else has a shot at it. Now, you can go beyond the game mechanics, and discuss what that means according to your humanly code of conduct and morals, but that is your culture, not the game's. You can find like minded individuals, and play the game however you see fit, attaching your own rule sets to the mechanics. You can play by yourself, and assume that nobody would play the game as you do. You should not come here though and expect the game to conform to your ideals. That is not how the world works, and hopefully that is not how this game works. (when the world Does work like that, and adopt a specific person's rules, it is usually termed negatively like 'Genocide' and 'War crimes')
Hey...is this thing on?
1. Make some reliable friends
2. Remember that the game is Open Beta.

Desync breaks the 'players get a chance at loot' argument. I can't count the number of times that I have clicked on loot walked over too it and seen it disappear into someone else inventory. You may find loosing out on loot due to desync fun but I and most other players do not.

Again not adding loot options at OB launch was GGG biggest mistake. Fake 'cut throat' loot creates pointless hostility between players and kills the social element of co-op. No one talks because if you take your hand off the mouse for a moment you may miss out on an orb drop. So no joking, no debating of 1h+shield vs duel weild. Just anti-social farming where you start to hate you fellow players.

Ahhhhaahaha. Amazing post. I just cannot believe my eyes.

So a game tries damn hard to make it fair for anybody, offers options (you don't like to feel safe? Go play a PvP realm :\ - it's way more unsafe than PoE), takes care of the players, tries to ensure they are not scammed, does its best to get rid of exploiters...

...and guess what? The exploiters, griefers, trolls are obviously unhappy :)

But they need luv too. So why not cater to them...

Sorry, internet needs more games that are not bent on mass sales to the point of catering to whiny players who never want an actual challenge, never want to feel the thrill of risk and reward (sure, the reward aspect can be improved in PoE), never want to have to socially interact to build trust and find diamond in the rough players to progress with, etc. etc.

That's why games such as DayZ become so viral - there is a HUGE player base out there who LIKE RISK and LIKE feeling that the odds are stacked against them because if there is NO RISK then there is NO FUN.

Make a new even more softcore league? Sure, all those players will quit after being level 90 with all the best items after a week or two and the league will be dead anyway.

Their looting decisions were a real shame because they tried to appease people by adding in an 'innovative' mechanic which back fired.

Personally, i would have been happy with true FFA looting, like other ARPG's of the past. Thinking about it though, players still would have cried out for different loot systems as unfortunately, thats the way of the gaming world now. D2 had it down... D3 didnt. There are far more D3 players playing PoE than D2 players i would presume (simply cos alot of older players stopped playing videogames).

i wonder what would have happened if the silly timers on the loot were never there.

GGG should have made a FAR BIGGER effort in informing players what the timer was there for. That the loot is still FFA. If players had been better informed, perhaps less would have moaned!
Just for try for see and for know -2013!

She corpse exploded the corpse of the boss...
The most addicting MMO of all time as far as I'm concerned was the origional UO. It was also the most cuthroat. There has to be some correllation there.
