My experience in this game has been nothing but negative and harassive.

The general feel of the community seems to be:

"As long as you aren't in MY party stealing MY(your) loot, I'm perfectly fine with helping you and giving advice"

If you go on global chat you will usually find someone willing to answer your dumb question for the day (unless it is VERY dumb like 'how many exalted will this blue sell for?'). Party play however has been a whole difference experience for me with people ignoring the meaning of party completely and doing their own thing with no regard for others. Loot hasn't really been a problem for me since I've never seen anything worth fighting over drop, but it is very easy to imagine some people grabbing everything they see and pissing off those who got their loot 'stolen'.

Everyone in this thread.
@ Op... that sucks. No one wants to play a game where people harrass you and provide a negative gaming experience. Its all for fun afterall?

Imho, i think people have a real problem in accepting a game which promotes a lot of 'cut-throat' elements. PK'ing on bandits, free-for-all loot etc... all these things which some of us 'older ones' have experienced before are part of the POE experience. I'm really glad POE are catering to these aspects as there is SOOOOO much choice for the opposite.

For some reason, players who arent happy with the latter amongst other things, should accept that its ok for atleast one game to have these features. it offers options to those who like the fact that you don't have to be all carebear mmo-style nicenice playstyle. Please note that im talking about playstyle, not player attitude.
Just for try for see and for know -2013!

Sorry but the player base for this game is crawling with greedy, filthy scum that only care to profit (and ultimately rip you off) and will try to do so whether you are a beginner or not.

I did a little experiment a few times where I pretended that I was a noob that found an exalt and didn't know the value...and that I was looking to sell it for some gear. Immediately I received a flood of whispers from people offering like 2GCP and trying to convince me it's a good deal...or linking to me a 1 chaos worth Limbsplitter, telling me it will make my low level Marauder (the character I was on) very strong. I got about 5-10 such whispers every time I did this experiment...these players are absolute scum.

That said, it's not the game's fault...it's humanity's fault. Online in general, allows people to be who they truly are, without consequence. The way a person acts online tells more about their real character than they the way they act offline. This is not a good look for humanity.

Yeah my younger brother has been scammed more than once, he says he doesnt care cause he got the item he wanted but hes been overpriced way to much by these assholes.

Anyway i never played wow nor D3 (ive played D1 and 2 long ago though), i used to play ultima online and i was a red, that means i player killed 24/7 (gave back loot, and never griefed btw), so its not like im a casual at that, im just tired of people taking advantage of others and being self centered. I was born in the 80s so i lived in a time where people were alot more social and empathious, so its stressful to handle how abyssmal people can be.

Just so its clear i do like the unforgiving mechanics of this game but not how people are able to f you over on what drops as 'your loot, and the scamming ofc.

Unfortunately OP, this game was created at “hard-core” or “cut-throat.” I’m not sure as to exactly what kind of game interests you. As for me personally, I love playing solo. Don’t have to worry about loot drops – they’re all mine I tell you mwahahahahaaha!! Ahem… Anyway, if you’re interested in a game that is similar to this, that’s an “MMO,” then I would suggest you play what I’m currently playing – Guild Wars; that would be Guild Wars 1. Everything is instanced, you get “mercs” to roam around with you, the game is pretty dead BUT there are some huge guilds that are around with helpful people. For the age of this game, it still has great graphics and very nice game play. Or you can play another favourite of mine, EQ2 – another lower populated game BUT with a fantastic community of peeps. I suppose it just all boils down to as to what kind of community you want to play with.
The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
asteroid came close to the earth, there's snow
in Arizona, star wars and star trek have the
same director! Who the hell is playing jumanji?

I thought a game like this might have had a positive community but atm im convinced the community here is even worse than in games like dota or league of legends. Its absolutely abyssmal how egocentrical and self centered people are, its impossible to join a party without every single piece of loot that is given to you (lighted for you when it drops) is script-looted away before you can pick it up cause no matter how many times you click it you wont pick it up but these scripters just pick it up by walking past while its lighted for YOU.

Ask your item back and youre either scolded, laughed at, kicked from the party, talked back to in chinese (most of the time) or completely ignored (probably a chinaman that cant understand and speak english)

Solo this game is boring as hell now, still no news of new acts ive been waiting for for half a year.

My younger brother also plays this game usually with more people but i cant have fun in this game ever, everyone is only out for their own pitiful gain. And VERY unsocial.

Ive had chaos, exalteds, gcps and now uniques chinese scripter stolen from me and now ive had it, im so close to quitting this game, and fuck everyone who comes in to just say that 'go quit then' 'good bye' 'youll be back' 'dont let the door hit you on your way out' 'noone cares' 'can i have your stuff' ive heard it all and its exactly the kind of people i mean, if you were planning on writing something like that then its you who should leave not only this game, but all games, its your mentality that destroys all fun in gaming, its pathetic, infantile and a illness.

That and the stale assholes that just play these games with scripts, bots, hacks and 3rd party tools, please jump off a bridge you pathetic neglect of society.

If noone can convince me there are people who arent like that this very thread, im going to quit this game, and thats not a threat because hardly anyone knows me here, its a statement.

This game is a negative experience for me, if that cant change why stay to play this? Up till now all ive been doing is wait for new acts but they dont come.. so what can i do..

I have a ps3, ps2, supernintendo and play other pc games so its not like i need this game.

bah.

I'd ask if I could have your stuff but seems like you were to slow to pick anything worth having up :(

I played UO for about 6 years in my teens and I can honestly say that game (in Felucca at least) was much worse for griefing than PoE is. I distinctly remember people would PK and then sit on your corpse until you came back (naked) and kill you again, rinse and repeat until your 1st corpse decayed. Then you'd lose all your gear whether or not they bothered to loot you.

Players in general in PoE are no better or worse than in any online game I've ever played (and I've played waaaay too many).

TBH I have no idea how you haven't got used to it by now.

I suggest you make some in-game friends, then you could party up without worrying about losing 'your' loot etc and you could trade within your circle of friends to avoid being ripped off (although IMO anyone who doesn't check the price of items they're buying or selling deserves anything they get)

I think the community by and large has some great qualities to it.
Yes theres the free for all aspect, and I think trading and traders
suck and are a pain in the ass to deal with... everyone wants more
than is reasonable. etc etc etc.

However, global chat is almost ALWAYS got some interesting chatter
and I have gotten trapped into 45 minute chats (as a solo player)
and cut short the number of runs I do for those chats.

Also the forums are pretty good. I've seen a buncha crap here
from time to time but also some really badass question and answer.
The developers are also active posters.

I'm not gonna comment on parties, but when I'm not trading with them,
I like the community :)
