My experience in this game has been nothing but negative and harassive.

I suspect it was the "please jump off a bridge" comment that got him.

Well what do you expect lol. People who post threads like this have this actually think the world cares about every little thing that goes wrong in his gaming experience.

I'm inclined to believe it was that word "harassive" - it upsets me every time I see it!

It's so "little" most of his friends list is out the game.

Read his first post.

If you or anyone truly believes there is any existing community where people are so friendly etc etc then let me know because I have never heard of such a place. And even if there is such a place, good luck in your gaming life because you're not going to be playing much given that most communities are like PoE's or worse.

Secondly is how op needs to pathetically lie to cover up his incompetence. Really does this guy, probably a computer science layman, actually think people run scripts to auto pick items? rofl

Oh and the part where he lies about playing lol or dota. He thinks lol/dota community is better? LOL try again scrub, people who actually played both will know which one is obviously worse by orders of magnitudes.

About the friends list. So I played wow 4-5 years back, a year later the next expansion comes out, and I find that most of my friends list quit... next expansion later same thing. Has it ever occurred to you that people just lose interest after playing forever on a single game? I know you'd really love to find a game that you could play for the rest of your life but please try to wake up.

tl;dr - op got naturally selected out of the game

City of Heroes was pretty amazing.

It was basically a given that if you logged in and asked newbie questions, someone would send you more money than you could possibly spend on equipment in your first week or two of play just to welcome you to the game.

I knew of a very small number of people who were jerks, and they were pretty much isolated from the rest of the community. Most people were pretty enthusiastically welcoming to others.

When ncsoft shut the game down because it was profitable and they were unsure how to deal with that (who knows why), a bunch of the community folks got together and started working cooperatively to make a new superhero MMO.

It's unusual, but it does happen.

Honestly, a lot of the niche games do pretty well. PoE's big weakness community-wise is that they've made it very clear that things which would be called griefing in many other games are part of the desired gameplay feel here, so the people who don't like griefing are not as likely to stay around. And heck, I don't care for griefing, and I'm sticking around -- but with no intention of ever partying outside of trading in town, because I don't trust the developers to provide a consistent co-op play experience, and don't enjoy non-cooperative multiplayer.
Learn to play, noob! <http://www.l2pnoob.org>

Me also, per the part in bold. I only party up to run areas or bosses - when I do, I don't expect to get any loot (so it's a pleasant surprise when I do). My experience with the ingame community has not been anywhere near as bad as others. There is always the odd douche in global and one night there was even an epic congregation of them but in general I've met nice people, some of whom just give me stuff out of the goodness of their hearts.

The minority is the most vocal.

I didnt see any threads of new players that i just spammed with free gear/gems. But a guy that missed an exalt made instant a forum thread about it.

People will flame us but I feel for you. GGG wants to promote a "cut-throat" feel but in the end what will happen is that casuals will be driven away.

We used to be 6 friends playing. We're all in our 30s with jobs, families etc etc. So you can imagine we take the casual approach, fool around, kill some time, etc etc.

2 out of 6 quit because of being unable to progress past mid-70s due to death penalty.
2 out of 6 quit because they love party play and hate soloing but party loot distribution felt too taxing.
1 is about to quit simply because the others did.

I personally play less and less every day, usually less than 1 hour/day, just run a couple of maps and log out. Mostly because my pals left and soloing maps can only take you that far (enjoyment-wise).

What GGG should also consider is that all those "cut-throat, hardcore" kids have less income to spend on the game compared to us casual oldies. So no only are you driving away potential customers, you drive away those potential customers with the possibly biggest wallets.

POE is VERY well done for a game coming out from a new developer but please be careful or your game might end up barren.

And yes, you can please everyone, make a new league (call it carebear for all I care) without a death penalty and with loot strictly personal (d3 style).

Flame on!

Fantastic statement +1

I don't even think it's exactly true that griefing is "part of the desired gameplay" or anything like that. GGG doesn't track down scammers but they have a fairly safe trade window, and they allow bandit PK but they warn you on the quest screen exactly what is possible. It seems like they lay things out pretty fairly, to me.

It's just that, I think, POE is the kind of game where people need to get rid of the mentality that they are entitled to everything. Entitled to be treated well and with kindness by every stranger, entitled to every piece of loot that drops which is highlighted for them, and so on. In Wraeclast, you aren't entitled to anything. You get what you get.

That's all that's really meant by saying that POE is meant as a cut-throat game. It doesn't mean that everyone you meet will be an asshole or that you're encouraged to be one by the devs. It just means that if you meet someone who grabs your loot before you can grab it, you shouldn't whine that it "belongs" to you. It doesn't. Cut-throat just means that no one should be complaining because strangers on the internet refuse to follow their arbitrary ethical code.

Some games go out of their way to enforce a particular set of ethics. POE does not. It leaves that up to the players. What that means is that some people will screw you, some will help you, and most will be out to benefit themselves as much as they possibly can.
