The whole idea behind the so called “crafting system” in his game is wrong-headed.
The fact that what should serve to upgrade your gear is actually loosely set up drawing machine results in badly functioning game.

It’s already not going about ho much we players are pissed off about how this game punishes us for our efforts, nor about that all our fixing proposals stay without any reply.
It’s going about cold facts.

I’ve got a 40 lvl Templar.
Question: how long didn’t I change my main weapon?
Since 22 level!!!!!!!

Almost TWENTY levels and no gear change!!!!!
(almost the same concerns gloves, helmet or belt – 10-15 levels)

I don’t really care what you’ll say about this system. Will you argue how to call it. Will you call yourselves hardcore gamers.
This is bullshit!
The complete contradiction to aRPG.

Orbs drop so rarely that some of them I could count on my fingers (being at 40 level!).
The complete randomness leads to the fact that using an orb again on a half-good gear is asking for destroying it not an upgrading it.
And for something like that you have to WORK for days farming monsters because chaos orb drops once a few days of the game play!
In result an upgrade in this game is a patch of failures, irritation and continuous sticking to some old well drawn gear.

Oh, I would forgotten.
I’ve manage to draw an axe lately, with a higher damage than my 20 levels old one (after several days – a few weeks actually - of collecting axes and wasting orbs on them).
By a complete accident I’ve got two good suffixes on it.
But what would you say about THE OTHER ONES like +4 to acuracy rating???
Changing the old axe with the new one I’ll Lose several needful suffixes I already have, just because the drawing machine jammed again and drew a cake with a shit on top of it.
To change or not to change? None of the decisions is good. None of them is a REWARD. None of them would be going forward.

This game is pathetic in this field and has overcome my own level of anger.
Thankfully there are other games.
22 may The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing releases, and soon other aRPGs.

Martinezz just post this in one of the big threads about crafting.
bump it. make it enormous, because GGG seem to wait for threads to become a thousand pages long, before bothering to read them.

the developer team believe there's nothing wrong with a form of gambling so flawed, it defies the laws of Probability - like tossing a coin with 2 sides heads and waiting for it to fall on tails.
they even call it "crafting".

it will take a concentrated outrage by hundreds of people to make them see otherwise.
one more thread with 2, 3 or 6 pages won't really make a difference. especially if half of said pages are expected to be you arguing with a random elitist troll about trivial things.

You're right.
But actually I'm starting to care less about them.
Waiting for better games, awarding my efforts.

I'm starting to convince myself that someone who could not see any problem inventing this system is not able to realize its flaws.
If I hear from someone this idea I would immediately see how bad it is in the core assumptions.
So how long argumentation would THEY need to realize that?
We shouldn't believe they will make any changes to that system.

It's about purpose :)

How do you make a short game last longer? How do you make up for very limited content when you have an extremely small indie team?

Well, simple: repetition&randomisation. It's even more convenient as these things are pretty common in most ARPGs.

Nothing short but lack of money, huge forum topics or disappearing playerbase would make GGG change their minds. The amount of work needed to "fix" crafting would be HUGE given their manpower. And would estrange some people too.

So why would they choose to do this? They could instead just make out new content, balance little things here and there, put out some more microtransactions and so on.

I'm really not clear what the OP is after, apart from venting.

GGG have always enunciated a fairly clear vision for their game, which may or may not suit some people.

I happen to think it's terrific, crafting and all - it's held my interest in a way that no other game has (Civ IV came close) in 25+ years of gaming.

Are there real improvements to be made? Absolutely. Is it a game that I feel has already delivered enormous value for money for me? Absolutely. Am I excited what the future holds for PoE? Absolutely.

Petrov, I can sense you are a masochist. that you like throwing money around for no particular reason. that you enjoy doing the same thing over and over again (see: masochist), and are a hopeless optimist just like me.

this is why I'd like you to come and invest in a project concept I recently heard of.
it's idea is utter stupidity. it has no prospect for profit, and the intended user interface is more hellish than the Malbolge programming language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malbolge) and Satan combined.
I think you'll like it :)

I like the crafting system. Keeps things from getting predictable and boring.

Hell they could change it and we could all get exactly what we want the first time we try to craft and then become extremely bored as we have nothing further to look forward to as all of our gear is perfect and all loot is rendered useless.

Currently:
-Dont use your orbs, just keep it in your stash
-buy your gear from lucky guys like D3 AH
-????
-Profit

Or:
- use 30 exalts worth of currency for craft
-get nothing
-quit
Don't use orbs...
Great idea.

Some other good ones:
Don't use spoons, pay with them for your babysitter.
Don't use clothes. Sell them. Buy flats and keep sitting inside naked.
Don't use shoes. Steel them from lucky ones and pay with them for your sedan guys.
