Lost Ark is POE Killer

if it competes directly

It might compete for players attention but so does Cyberpunk 2077 or Doom Eternal. I mean...why not make threads about those games? Point is they are two different genres, yet everyone compares the two. It makes ZERO sense.

Ok, I will be that anecdotal example - the reason I started playing LA was because I wanted to play an isometric ARPG but didn't want to play others on the market like Wolcen, Last Epoch, Martyr or PoE. And right know I am getting my ARPG fix in LA. Sure, it's not a full on diablo-esque game, it is primarily an MMO, and to be fair the MMO elements are the things I don't really care about and actually reduce my overal enjoyment of the game. However, the ARPG action and elements that are in the game satisfy me.

See, that's where you loose me. LA is not a Isometric ARPG. It's a bog standard Korean MMO...with a isometric view.

And I can draw a ton of parallels. When I do chaos dungeouns (the horde mode ones), I mow down a ton of enemies just like I would in PoE maps. When I do guardian raids solo, it reminds of me of doing bosses in PoE. When I do dungeouns, again, I can compare it to doing bosses in PoE but with more people and more team coordination required.

There are different rarity tiers of gear with different random stats, and there are stat combinatiosn that are BIS for your class and build... just like in Diablo or PoE. Sure, the item variety is not nearly as great, but the principle is here.

And during questing, I run from one exclamation dude to another in between walking through maps and clearing bosses and monsters in dungeouns, kind of similar to what I would do in... you guessed it, PoE acts leveling.

There are builds in the game, I can modify my skills (with visual changes as well), choose to boost some or others more... Similarly to a diablo-like game.

Are there differences? Absolutely, however, I see enough similarities as well.

If you think an MMO is like PoE simply because the view is isometric, I really don't know what to say. I'm baffled and without words. You equip BiS pieces of gear! clearly it's like Path of Exile. I mean wut?
So...if WoW got a Isometric view mode, you would think it's just like PoE? After all, you chase BiS equipment and mow down monsters.

I already listed the similarities, so I am not going to repeat myself. I also dont understand your fixation on gear. For me gearing was probably the weakest part of PoE. 99% of my gear was bought on POE trade, not dropped or crafted, and most of the stuff I dropped in the game (after clearing endgame multiple times and over 1k hours) was mostly garbage with few notable exceptions, that were still useless for my builds but good for sale.

You need to understand that different people find games attractive for different reasons, and these preferences can overlap over different games, which can be different in other aspects.

All I can say is camera-view matters. How about if you change PoE from isometric into 3D like WoW. Would you still call PoE an ARPG or would you call it some MMO or something?

I don't think genres are your strong suit. I whole heartedly agree with the last part.

People are still arguing about what genre Lost Ark is in? The only thing that matters is that Steam has classified Lost Ark as an RPG. Now POE has to compete on that same curated list. Lost Ark is currently ranked as number 1. POE is number 16. In Steam's Massively Multiplayer genre, Lost Ark is ranks at number 2. POE is number 12.

People keep making two different arguments. You can play two different games, I agree! Both games are sub genres of RPG I agree!, but it aint a isometric ARPG. That is an objective fact. My issue is people keep putting the two games in the same context, and even saying LA is like Diablo, or PoE. It's not, full stop. Saying otherwise shows a huge misunderstanding of how to classify genres.

I'm curious. How is Lost Ark not an "action role playing game"?

Also, are you saying POE is like Diablo 3?
