So, with Lost Ark having recently entered the fray as a major contender to the ARPG throne, I thought it might be fun to toss it in a pit with the genre's other big-hitters of the last decade, namely Diablo 3 and Path of Exile, and let them duke it out in a series of arbitrary, but lethal, challenges. Which game has the loveliest loot, or the most satisfying skills? Which best conveys the feeling of turning a god into jam with the click of a mouse?
The plan is to compare how all three games handle different aspects of the core ARPG formula. It's a general comparison of broad-stroke systems, rather than an in-depth analysis of how each game handles, say, individual class-types."
I wouldn't use where XP gains come from to define the genre. XP gains are not the big reward. Loot is. In Lost Ark, you can dungeon crawl to get better loot. I heard melee skills in Lost Ark are fun. So maybe it can be called a hack and slash, too. Maybe even more so than POE because everyone knows about the state of POE melee.
Oh, I don't care if people critique Lost Ark if the complaint is valid. But people who say that Lost Ark can't be compared to POE because they are 100% "completely different" will tilt me.
Here’s the problem with you mindset: Gear is CERTAIN from those bosses/ dungeons. It’s not loot. It’s common drops even at end game. The only challenge is honing and doing quests to gain stats like charisma and wisdom. Any dungeon boss is soloable, and map bosses don’t require anything but participating.
P S Melee skills are only fun in that they single skill 1 shot every 10-14 seconds

It has sexier waifus than PoE. 'Nuff said. :p
Wait... do PoE have sexy waifus at all?

Ngl that was kinda painful and cringe to see unfold. I mean the whole P2W and blurred lines thing has been discussed to death and now genres to this extent, primarily because the industry labelled it as such on their platforms/clickbait. Unfortunately not surprised in the slightest.

If I can equip something and it improves my character it is loot.
You say that you know your stuff in Lost Ark. Others have challenged your expertise and knowledge of Lost Ark and called you out on it. Let's assume you know both Lost Ark and POE. Why are Lost Ark concurrent players around 10 times POE concurrent players? It has been steady for a week. Are Lost Ark players just clueless? Are they not having fun and just ignore it and pretend they are having fun?

Anything I just said anyone will agree with 100%.
Why? Because it’s promoted by Steam, Amazon, “new” in a vacuum, and hyped by The same Korean hype machine that hyped every game that goes global, and GGG does none of those things and doesn’t want to. Also, Lost Ark has lost a Lot of players in the last week. People are still grinding quests though, and haven’t gotten to try the end game.

You can compare Lost Ark to an orange for all I care, as long as you hang your arguments on the right pegs. And there are many similarities between Lost Ark and PoE. But calling a quest-running MMO an "ARPG" just doesn't sit right with me. But hey, I really do not care, so fuck it.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Eh my opinion doesn't matter either. But PC Gamer and Steam have a lot of sway. I would say between PC Gamer and Steam they have all the opinion that matters in pc gaming. And they classify Lost Ark as an ARPG or MMO/RPG in direct competition with POE.

Will check in 1 month and see how Lost Ark is doing RELATIVE to POE.

Excuse me, I thought the only opinions that mattered in gaming were those of the enlightened writers at Kotaku and Polygon? Are you seriously telling me I don't have to reflect and atone for my toxic gamer mindset everyday? :O
