So how much can Monkey King Bar hurt? [theorycrafting]

This staff certainly looks interesting. If i had it i would probably build a crit-based sweep + leapslam char with crit nodes (especially serpentine stance) to amplify the low base damage. Melee damage on full life is a definite must to multiply the damage. Meginord's, Astra, Carcass Jack, Fending nodes, blast radius, amplify, knockback support gem and full screen knockback sweep ftw!

I think in the end I'm going to go with a lot of physical to elemental conversion (hatred,Added Fire Damage, infernal blow/glacial hammer) and stick Melee Physical Damage and Weapon Elemental Damage gems to get some great damage numbers. I would probably need melee splash and some IAOE to make it viable but... sounds cool on paper!
This is an important question that needs to be answered before the real theorycrafting can begin:

Is the Strength bonus local to the weapon, or global? (If you equip it and the damage numbers turn blue, indicating a modification, they are local.)

Same question for Dexterity; is the attack speed increase local, or global?
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

I'm almost certain it is global for one reason: It reads "Increased WEAPON physical damage".

If you look at all local damage bonuses found in other weapons, they read "increased physical damage". The fact that they needed to clarify this point is telling. However, I would love a dev to chime in.
Seems like a possible fun times with this staff. Looking forward for some real footage ;)

btw: just a question.. you said that each STR node will give 12% .. shouldn't that be just 10% ? How did you get to 12%?

10 STR does already give 2% IPD to all characters regardless of the staff =)
If you're gonna theorycraft don't use unrealistic BS numbers like 200 dex from gear.

I already make it clear I pulled those numbers out of nowhere. I'm just going for a ballpark estimate, and considering the best possible mod for DEX is 50 dex, a total of 200 among all your gear seemed reasonable to me. Feel free to lower that as you please.
Well, with an Astramentis 200 dex from gear is not unrealistic. Considering how this staff works Astramentis is the best amulet for a build with it anyway. Really looks like a weapon version of Facebreakers to me, although you only get increased damage instead of more damage, however you have additional weapon base damage and can use more skills with it. (€dit: Oh, and you can create a crit build.)
Definetly an interesting one, if you start to think how to make a build arount a unique it's done right. :)

The only issue I can think of with using it with crit is your tree is going to be incredibly tight with all the points invested into crit chance.
IGN: Ikimashouka, Tsukiyattekudasai, DontCallMeMrFroyo
Just want to point out that the build you linked to probably wouldn't have the greatest survival rate...here's my suggestion.

This way you get blood magic, lots of life/regen, both diamond skin nodes, tons more attack speed (at the cost of ~100 STR, still got 404 from the tree alone though - balancing stats rather than just stacking one is generally better anyway), Iron Reflexes, and a reasonable amount of evasion+armor.

EDIT: I'm also not sure why you'd take nodes like Executioner (Duelist 2H stuff), or 8% physical staff damage...10 STR nodes = 12% global physical melee + 5 flat life. If you wanted to adapt your version, I'd suggest something like so: Marauder

Just my $0.02 ;)

EDIT: With life stacking builds, I honestly feel like Unwavering Stance is very overrated. I've only ever played life builds, and I very rarely encounter issues with getting stunlocked. The occasional stun here and there can be annoying, but there are very few instances where it has lead to my death...I wouldn't spend more than 1-2 points for it on most of my chars, honestly. Make that $0.04
