Watched Llama D2 resurected beta stream and, I know know why GGG wants a slower game

D2 didn't change any main system more than 20 years but there are many private servers of d2 still running all around world. I played 1 of the biggest private server in china name IMPK more than 10 years, they open new league every 3 years use the same version 1.11b, but still have more than 10 thousand players play online while new league start and many d2 fans buy IMPK's membership like POE's support pack.

So now it's the question: how many players will play POE if the game version such as my favor 3.13 keep same 10 years?

Loot drops actually mean something in d2. Whens the last time you got excited for a drop in PoE? ha

Any unique or divination card worth an exalt or more, including exalted orbs themselves.

Jesus....

Have we fallen so far in the arpg ranks that we are cheering for a trading card drop (which really just means sell for exalts), in lieu of decent actual loot?

PoE's loot situation, and I've been saying it for the better part of a year +, when I'm allowed ;), is HORRIFIC.

In general my attitude went from concern, to angry, to sheer dismay, to now, 100% complete apathy.

I dont care what happens to PoE anymore. My time and money will go elsewhere, happily. I will keep tabs, and enjoy the drama/forum game, but overall my sentiments on GGG is "Meh" and a genreal state of head shaking.

I did speed run Cow level in D2 back in the day. :-)

Never enjoyed the cow level after the joke wore thin... especially when you had to avoid killing the Cow King.
Oh yeah I remember that, and how annoying it was to be playing next to people speed clearing and accidentally killing him.

Was a fun zone though. I loved the pack sizes :)

I'm looking forward to D2R. Will be nice to get that nostalgia again. Not sure if I'll play it for thousands of hours but I think it will serve as a good reminder to many developers of what inspired so many games afterward.

Blizzard has different issues atm than working on D4. Given how things currently are I don't expect anything but the bare minimum from that studio.

I also heard there's no modding in D2R? And if that's the case there won't be any life to that game other than reminiscing a bit.

Which is kind of a shame, in the end. Oh well :-)
Did you try turning it off and on again?

back when I played Diablo2 the original back in 2003 or whatever, you couldn't really mawn the lawn in the rpg game and a "slower" progression made it have more of a quality instead of quantity and made those extreme "loot drops" really memorable. As I've stopped playing POE for over a year now I realised POE is pretty much mowing the lawn, and there is no immersion it always felt like a job, you never had that thing when you kill some key boss you stop for 5-6 minutes to eat some pizza and talk it over with your friends, it never quite feels you done something, it's always to the next thing. Let's be real, when you really finish something in POE, the league is pretty much done for you and that is usually week2-week3. I understand now why GGG wants to slow things down, it's the playerbase that has used to mawing the lawn in the last couple of years that is the issue... I wonder will it work ok for them.

We must have been playing different Diablo2 games. There were a lot of speed stuff, and in some cases it was even faster than your average poe build. Please don't compare act1 of D2 with PoE end-game mapping.
Teleport spaming, unlimited super speeds, huge aoe spells and clears was very common in end game D2.
D2R will get old in 6 month's if they don't add something on top of it.

D2 was the pioneer of this kind of games, and let's not forget POE had his foundation based on D2.

GGG had time to develop over the years, which D2 didn't cuz they threw out that dumpster on fire called D3.

I don't care if the game is slow ,fast or whatever... I want it to be good, and right now POE is not anymore.

Chris said build diversity is great , I don't really know what he is talking about, poe ninja is full of spectres and spectral throw builds.

Well, before that there was D1 and before THAT there was (and still is) Nethack.

its true, compared to poe diablo 2 is absolute garbage.

hahaha good one.

Getting a set item in act 1 off a rare mob felt more exciting than the gazillion uniques spammed on me for mapping.

Just the power level and leveling scene was amazing. Always full groups of EIGHT peope not this 2-4 bs, and actual open world farming+pvp not tucked away in a hideout and running into instanced portals.

I still love POE but imagine a game 2 decades old still holding strong against it?

POE has become a circus of loot and abusable league mechanics that renders progression uneventful because it's just all too easy.

POE encourages singe player because of it's pacing, group games are a joke.

Where's the rush where you get to one-shot gear with no effort and your journey ends because of random one-shots from enemies because they had to make it so unpredictable due to exponential power creep.

Oh and I bet 1 month into a D2 season will have more players than POE.

The way Diablo 4 is shaping I think D2 even then eventually will still have more consistent players. Developers have lost the plot with this genre. All they had to do was use D2 as a base and improve on that, not try rewrite and making everything mobile-turbo mode.

Also coding has gotten even more lazy so they have to reduce and restrict group size etc. It's just a complete mess.
