An ultimatum to GGG

You are absolutely right. It is not all fun and games, players stopping their support also means the pressure coming from corporate share holders to change the game into something that may not be in accordance with Chris' plans. It is indeed going to be a bumpy ride ^^

Correct.

Still Tencent owns 80%. Means if Tencent greenlights something, the other shareholders can go and suck a D. Their opinion hardly matters.

In my (limited) experience with Chinese corporations they do like longterm plans and dislike surprises. Im pretty sure this plan (if this is their plan) has been talked about at the very least 1 year ago, greenlighted and worked on at least half a year ago.
Stuff like this cant be done over night. It takes time.

What Chinese corps absolutely dont like is loosing face in public.
If Tencent did greenlight this, there is no walking it back in case this backfires. Someone would have to be sacrificed and forced to commit seppuku in public to deflect the shame.
The only one prominent enough to serve as scapegoat and sacrificial lamb would be Chris. And then what? Now they lost the only talking head they have.

Not a great option. Id rule out walking it back. Not happening.
They would likely suck it up and fume behind the curtains while painting the failure as the greatest success ever in gaming history ^^

Just wanted to chime in, yea the game is not fun anymore
Time to have a look at Last Epoch.
+1 to that.

My impression from reading the forums the last few days (playing the game is not fun) is that especially players with a long list of supporter packs in the profile dont like the changes and express criticism while usually players without or only with a few supporter packs white knight defend the changes.

Also I think there is a what I would call a social wave effect or chain reaction where the absence of one player who is heavily invested in the game with time and social interaction with others leads to the disappearence of others when they check their friends list with no one online. This effect that lead to ever increasing player numbers in the past will work on the way down, too. Prepare for a crash in player numbers when players realize that GGG is determined to continue to suck the fun out of the game and create a unrewarding time sink.

All in all this will hurt GGG financially since its not the players who play a lot but those who actually drop cash on the game that matter. And since Tencent isnt majorly invested in the company to support some developers 'vision' that hurts the bottom line I could imagine they will intervine to revert the course. I guess the next two leagues will make or break POE.

What needs to be done:

-test the league mechanic and changes properly before release and stop abusing the players for testing your new league and changes

-ask yourself if the changes are more fun for the players before implementing and ask the community beforehand (mana managing/flasks/curses)

-stop the damage spikes

-nerf builds that are totally on a next level and buff underused ones (how come we had a few leagues in a row where players were just standing in the middle of the sirus storms or oneshotted the whole screen with frostbomb? also aurabots)

-provide alternative leveling method (delve or a D3 like system)

-stop gating crafting behind rng and forced grind (delve crafting recipes and unveiling items)

-adjust (old) league mechanics constantly and dont let them rot (hello Lost maps and league mechanics on a timer or you can fail after damage nerf)

-buff underused skills and uniques every league constantly to provide alternatives

-rework the garbage loot explosions

-bring determinestic crafting not only for the discord users

-provide enough currency drops to craft items and map rolling for normal players and make the league mechanic rewarding

-stop conditional challenges

MAKE POE GREAT AGAIN. I dont give a f*** about POE 2 at the moment.

The way I see it, that isn't surprising at all.

The last supporter pack I got was back at 2017, which, going by the badges, should be around the time when you started playing and supporting the game. The reason I stopped was because the direction where it was going was so different from beta and early release.

They just pulled all the stops and went into content hyperproduction mode, getting less and less concerned about how much sense the individual pieces make in the grand scale and what's the direction of the whole thing. The finer details were of no concern as long as the train is chugging along and the passengers are boarding. We could even say that, as the train was slowly turning into a carnival rollercoaster, it also got filled with a different kind of passengers, rowdy and hungry for cheap thrills with little concern about endlessly going in circles and less appreciation for the work involved in running it. Pretty much what we're seeing on reddit these days.

Now, this league and the next period probably won't be anything to brag about, but that's just paying the cost of treating the game like that, it had to happen sooner or later. What ultimately makes me happy about this whole thing is they seem to have a goal again and are working towards it, and that probably means even more to them.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Never gonna happen. Egos are an interesting and fragile thing.
The nerfs will continue until morale improves.

No, I played before on another account when dried lake runs where a thing. I dont know what year or league that was. But that wasnt for me and I left until a friend urged me to join him years later. Then I became hooked but honeymoon time seems to be over now.
Badges mean nothing. I still pay for my tabs, effects and mystery boxes. Which doesn't matter because having badges doesn't automatically mean you know what you are talking about.
