All in all, I am happy I tried this build, even though it was modified quite a bit after lvl 90 to have better survivability, Crackling Lance Occultist is a lot of fun!

Did some more sims with the new forbidden flame + flesh, and reaching 11+M dps is not an issue, even without awakened controlled destruction and without sacrificing survivability (you can still facetank & melt almost all content). Changed my setup to this and the increased shock effect from Shaper of Storms is a noticeable increase in boss dps https://poe.ninja/pob/3eP:-)

I also dropped Herald of Thunder for Anomalous Tempest Shield, which on 20% quality + ashes of Stars +30% quality chains 6 times on block... which is an immense help with map clear speed. This also allowed to rearrange some skill points due to the awesome spell block the skill offers.

I'm testing this build (a slight variation) as a starter for 3.18

Leveling was awful thanks to Archnemesis mods everywhere, but I guess that's to be expected. Things got better with unleash arc, but real improvement was to transition earlier to crackling lance (I did it at level 81).

This league, required items are cheap. Total spent for me is 36 chaos (day 3):

- 1c : mark of submission
- 3c: divine vessel (for freeze immunity pantheon. I run shakari for poison too)
- 12c: prism guardian
- 20c: 5L Ivory Tower

As I'm starved with Chromatic orbs, I run crackling lance in BBBBR setup (intensify, concentrated effect, faster casting, inspiration). I don't use spell echo for now to prevent being stuck in place.

By the way, a Lori's lantern in other ring slot is an awesome beginning option (as we are always on low life, we get chaos resist, movement speed, and survivability thanks to anything hitting you being unlucky -> about 30% less damage taken).

The build feels tanky enough for now (mid yellow tier), with very basic gear (I still have some trash from acts because loot drops have been heavily nerfed).

I run Wrath + Discipline + Determination (armor helps a lot to prevent shield to be grinded by numerous small hits).

I run arrogance with clarity to help with mana and reserve the optimal quantity of life for maximum ES. Thanks to mana regen + leach, I can ignore chaos DoT for now.

I use a void sphere on trigger wand for defense, and I consider using an orb of storm + knockback + added lightning damage + controlled destruction setup for Point-Blank AoE.

So far, I like this build, so thank you for sharing it.

Glad to see you are enjoying the build.

This league it I think that due to Archnemessis mobs, Crackling lance has an intrinsic value due to it's huge range. I find being melee quite difficult.

Go for PoB.

Initial guide was done during Ultimatum league, and some changes were done along the way.

I didn't put much efforts in updating the full guide since the main skills remain, and usually people look at a glance on the gems, then they focus on the pob.

Not sure if its a bug with expedition.

According to PoB I got an effective hit pool of 54k without any pots.

I got 83k with pots.

Here is my pob. Need a 6l and maybe more chaos resistance. Need the op shields but getting my money up and trying to get my map completion up.

Generally this league is full of 1 shot. My guess "Chaosweaver" mobs are killing you (I'm having the same problem on a Marauder since chaos resist is very low to begin with).

You effectively have a 2266 mana pool vs chaos. So pump up a bit your mana and chaos resist ant things will become ok. You can also do the Shavrone build that was done by the community (a bit more expensive with less DPS).

Needless to say that the crackling lance build is to be used from away not dash-into-mobs :).
Not sure what I am doing wrong but I am struggling in the DPS department.

If anyone has time to check my POB and give me some pointers I would be much appreciative.

I've updated the build with the tree I will have as goal.

The build will continue to be a low-investment - high efficiency build, however Uber Pinnacle Bosses and super-juiced late game maps won't be accessible.

Probably best suited for league starter + mid-league.

The clear speed will continue to be insane.
