I'm glad this event has opened some more eyes, but yes, this has always been true.

PoE is littered in shady hidden mechanics with similar purposes, aimed at drawing people in, driving playtime statistics, etc etc.

Utterly disgusting - it's going to take convincing before I support this game again. Maybe they should use the "marketing money" to actually test and have proper QA. And if this really was unforeseen, they should accept their loss instead of manipulating the playing field.

Streamer privileges = #walletcolsed for both Tencent/GGG and streamers too.

Chris apology hit some of the right notes. But two points stood out:

1) he said the decision to allow streamers to bypass queue is because they have paid for streamers to advertise this launch. Basically, he’s telling us GGG’s decision making process is based on financial considerations, first and foremost. Integrity to the game comes second.

2) he should not have tried to sneak in the justifier of how allowing streamers to come in allows us to have something to watch while we wait. It’s insulting to our intelligence. Just own the mistake without trying to justify it.


Edit: Chris is my personal (game dev) hero. I watched him made POE into the game it is today. A game I admire greatly. Having to call him out for what I think is the biggest misstep GGG has ever made pains me immensely. But this whole fiasco really give me the blizzard north to activision blizzard vibes. I am doing what I’m doing hoping the company tries really hard not to go down that slippery slope.

GGG has a track record of insulting players intelligence. This isn't the first time and won't be the last.

The implicit understanding has always been, all players are equal, and anything that matters is based on effort you put in within the game. Anti P2W is all about ensuring external means don’t influence ingame achievements. Now GGG is saying not all players are equal.

IF streamers ALONE i could possible think why it was made... BUT WHOLE GROUP THAT STREAMER NAMED GET FULL priority as if they streamers THATS WAYYYY OVERKILL BAD!!!

What GGG did didn’t affect me much, usually I start t league way later than everybody else cos my work keeps me away from comp for days, so I’m kinda use to be behind. But I do understand that loads of ppl get upset about it because they trying hard to push in those first hours. And it definitely made me think what else does GGG make for streamers.

Well for now i'm sad that i supported this company. Decided to push this league was placed 39 in queue. Was like super hyped go for push and then act2 sudden dc and i over 100k. Ok league start can be bad and that i could understand, but to understand why streamers, they friends, girlfriends and they dogs get priority.... That is beyond me for sure

This really makes that 1% meme rings painfully true.
