My turn to say something. I would Love the system the way it is now if only...
If only my laptop running other games almost perfectly would run this one.
If only melee characters with no damage would not stand on top of the mobs waiting.
If only people would not rush for the chests while ignoring the mobs.
If only maps would be worthless i would not care if that 77 was just taken when i invest a lot in it.
If only...
So i play duo with a buddy and dont complain. Sure i miss a lot of loot from a 6 man group but at least i am in no rush.
I join any group, regardless of title.
If something worth picking up drops, and I can, I pick it up.
I proceed to ask my group if anyone wants it while linking it in chat.
I give it to whoever wants it, or keep it if they don't.
If someone picks up something I wanted, I ask them to link it and trade them for it when convenient.
Rinse Repeat.
So don't tell me I support FFA because I like griefing people. I enjoy helping others. It's what I do.
My suggestion to passify the carebears:
Make separate leagues with different loot systems: I.e. Pure Allocation, Pure FFA, FFA with timer, etc. (No instanced. Instanced is not an option. Server resources.) Though I would prefer PoE to stay strictly FFA. This suggestion would be a compromise I'd be willing to accept. Begrudgingly.
I use the term "carebears" for a reason. I find it particularly hilarious and fitting. The reason I'm against even my own suggestion is that I want PoE to stay what it is. Because I enjoy it this way. Call me names if you want, it's true. It's a game with choice. Choice that actually matters as it affects other players. I know of no other game that has this, and I like it.
I don't like people who complain about something that is free. It just screams a lack of appreciation for what is had. I also don't like false senses of entitlement, which this issue drips like a juicy steak drips fat.
Now, don't get me wrong, feedback is what this is all about. Feedback is good. Almost all forms of it in fact. The kind this issue elicits is not.
Especially when the feedback is based on something so wrong. The best example of this is the fact that most players who complain do not understand what the timer is for. That makes their "feedback" worthless because it's based on something that's not true about the game.
Saying "extend the timer so I can get my drops" is bad feedback because it directly goes against what the game is about. It gets so many things wrong, it's sad.

if you love ffa, then join a ffa game? oh i think 90% of public mapping games are titled " Loot to name" and you can't find a ffa game!! That means most players in this game hates this looting system...

If this worked as you described it to, I would be all for FFA loot.
However this is how it works for me:
I join any group, preferably the ones labelled no ninja.
If something worth picking up drops in my name, and I can, I pick it up.
I proceed to ask my group if anyone wants it while linking it in chat.
I give it to whoever wants it, or keep it if they don't.
If someone picks up something I wanted (in my name or theirs), I ask them to link it. They completely ignore my request and proceed to say nothing at all until they leave the party.
Rinse Repeat.

I didn't say that's how it's supposed to work. I said that's how I play with FFA.
You see, your problem is that you only pick up what's has your name on it. I pick up everything. Then I ask if anyone wants it (giving first choice to the one who's name was on the timer) and go on as I said.
What this does, is it creates good will between me and my group. They recognize that I am fully willing to share with them things I don't already explicitly need. Even if I need it, I ask anyway, and just ask that they trade me an orb or something to make me losing it semi-worth it.
This makes them far more likely to do the same, in listening to me, and trade or what have you.
You don't do that. That's what allocation does, it separates the group and makes it feel like you aren't really a group.
Edit: When it comes to orbs (that are more or less the exception), I just pick them up to give them to the one who's name was on the timer.

isn't it easy to test it out? implement options and see how it goes. This game is called being in beta for a reason, test it out instead of ignoring it
What I think sucks about ninjaing is that there are so many ways to get away with it in a totally cheap, irritating (for others) way. I gave the suggestion a while back about keeping loot assignments, and allowing the random assignee to force PvP on the "loot ninja" -- if you kill the would-be ninja, you get the loot; if they kill you, they get to keep the loot.
Don't care about ninjaing? Then don't do anything and act as normal.
