*sigh* I am quite well aware, as someone that has played many mmorpgs, particularly Everquest (where I, at a young age, became familiar with .001% drop chances on mobs that spawn every 48 hours level of RNG), and who knows things like statistics, that as they say RNG = RNG. I realize of course that one man may use 200 fusing orbs and not get a 6, or even 5 link, while another guy uses 8 and gets a 6 link. That doesn't change the fact that it just feels like the percentages associated with how likely it is for one to get a certain link setup are a little off, to the point where it is more likely that one will use 200 than 8, by just a little too much. But that isn't even really a big deal to be honest. And yes, maybe I'm overreacting to what you said, I dunno, I'm extremely drunk right now, so I'm just talking to talk, for the most part.

Don't sweat it. I was just trying to get back OT. :)

P.S. I played EQ and EQ2 as well.

Good old days mate. I really miss the raw feeling that EQ provided; although I think that part of it was the game itself, most of it was my own video game virginity and naivety. They certainly don't make em like they used to, though that is one of the curses of life; profundity quickly becomes mediocrity in our limited perspective and tenure. PoE reminds me in many ways of a modern, ARPG EQ. Perhaps that's the alcohol talking.

When I see the opening post complimented for being intelligent and well thought-out, I can't help feeling it is indeed intelligent, but in a very devious way.

Please, don't let yourself be fooled by basic manipulation. Open your eyes and look at the tricks employed.

— Poster starts by listing his regalia to put more weight into his words, even though it doesn't nor shouldn't matter at all (and end up ultimately working against him).

— He proceeds listing things completely unrelated to the subject matter, again, to put more weight into the part of the post that actually addresses it.

— Using empathy generated by the previous manipulation tricks, he attempts to carefully push the blame for his own bad decisions onto the game and, indirectly, the devs. The decisions, so to speak, start at making a character in hardcore league.

— The arguments that follow don't add up, and suggestions suddenly aren't as "thought-out" as the preamble, revealing fatal impatience and/or complete inability to comprehend what's actually going on (and concepts such as "challenge") and relay further wishes consistently with the stances and experience stated earlier:
- hates D3 but wishes for some of the things that made D3 worse than D2;
- loves D2 but ignores that D2 is way less fair than PoE in HC;
- completely ignores the fact that one could ignore the social and economical aspects of the game completely and still have a good time and productive character development.

— He never again joins the discussion, making it a point that his post is merely a notification, a cry for attention, and not a genuine attempt to bring anything meaningful to the table.

Psychologist? Sure, you guys got psychologied. He attempted to cheese the game the same way he cheesed the discussion he started, because that's most likely how he rolls in any activity: go in with a lot of aplomb, fail, whine, quit.

I'm not saying Brian shouldn't have responded in the way he did (which was a right thing to do, and even came with a bonus), but he has somewhat of a moral obligation to respond, and others should know better. This here is the especially unpleasant kind of OP that—despite the allure—is best left ignored.
<Tyrfalger> Exactly, the next act is going outside Sarn and into those wheat fields (see the map) to become a farmer. Then we can spend our days endlessly farming. Wait a minute...
