[Sept 18] Difficulty and Level Progression
That's why I mentioned the more specific selections.
A simple selection would be flat and innefective, and a more complex one intrusive and too powerful. In the end I feel giving the player any choice at all would be against the game's design philosophy, when they have the possibility to insert difficulty changes through equipment and character customization. |

It will be interesting to see what method they have planned for the endgame:
" It will most likely be most efficient just to use that on the entire game. |

" That quote is from the end-game thread. It will apply only to the upper levels of play, not early difficulties. Sorry. NewDude: I killed Brutus. Now I have no quest. So what now?
Guy: I guess there are people that NEED quests for direction. Guy2: I always wonder how those people get through life. GuyMontag: They get married. Wives are like quest-givers. |

" Sigh... It's highly annoying when people don't read the posts they reply to. I KNOW THAT IT'S THEIR PLAN FOR THE ENDGAME ONLY. Otherwise I would not have said: "It will be interesting to see what method they have planned for the endgame" now would I? But just because it's currently planned for endgame only, there is no logical reason to think that it can't be applied to the entire game. Just because that's not their current plan doesn't mean it's impossible, or even unreasonable. Last edited by Sickness#1007 on Feb 25, 2012, 8:47:32 PM

" Yes there is. You just can't comprehend it. -.- And even if someone bothers to explain in detail, you'll just shoot them down with irrational blindness. It wouldn't work. Bye again. NewDude: I killed Brutus. Now I have no quest. So what now? Guy: I guess there are people that NEED quests for direction. Guy2: I always wonder how those people get through life. GuyMontag: They get married. Wives are like quest-givers. Last edited by wyldmage#4516 on Feb 25, 2012, 9:02:59 PM

" Here is what you need to understand: X is planned for endgame. There can be reasons to not use X on the rest of the game, but "it's planned for endgame" is not one of those reasons. Very simple logic. What is so hard to understand? |

" Oh, I understand that. Which has nothing to do with why it wouldn't work. NewDude: I killed Brutus. Now I have no quest. So what now?
Guy: I guess there are people that NEED quests for direction. Guy2: I always wonder how those people get through life. GuyMontag: They get married. Wives are like quest-givers. |

" You certainly don't act like you understand. IF we are going to have any kind of system that changes the difficulty/reward (which was what I and RandomOugi was talking about) I think it most likely would be most efficient to use the system they have have planned for endgame. If you want to continue discussing the pros and cons of a selectable difficulty system then go back to page 14 and reply to my rebuttal of every single of your arguments. Don't just say "it wouldn't work". Last edited by Sickness#1007 on Feb 25, 2012, 9:51:11 PM

Until the ability to split topics exists, I think this thread has seen enough of the back and forth. Please find a new aspect to talk about... else we'll have to start pruning more stuff.

" IMHO, and that goes along with GGG's explanations on their league plans, the announced options to add a more challenging part for endgame chars, will work the same way like in D2 the option to make HC chars was limited to people that reached the second difficulty at least once... They could (will?) make it, to have beaten the entire game before unlocking the 'challenge mode' option. invited by timer @ 10.12.2011
