What is up with all the scammers lately?

Was left pretty speechless by one cockmonkey yesterday, got a PM asking me how much i wanted for a ring i had listed, it wasnt priced as im still working through the ton of stuff i have in my standard stash

anyway the rings 79 life, 45 fire/lightning/35 chaos, 36% ele damage and 24 rarity. He offers me 10C. when i refuse and even joke "you mean 10 ex, right?" hes all like, fuck you, fucking scammer, thats a 10c ring."

he went on for about 10 minutes while i did a couple of maps, still messaging me with insults, linking me rings that have no life on them telling me they are better because they have 18 rarity or some shit. He just didnt seem to understand that a 109 life 125 resist ring is worth a fair bit more than 10c lol

Both of your examples suggest something fake was provided. I would consider that a "scam". Come up with an example where something fake is provided in POE and I'll re-consider my position.

Items in this game don't have price tags. Prices aren't set by some outside governing body or company. They are created by the value the market places on an item. Offering 10c for an item that is listed for 25c or even an ex is not a "fake" price. It is an offer that if accepted would complete the transaction. The seller has no obligation to take that price. The seller has access to the same information as the buyer and can come up with his own value of the item.

When you talk about fake bills or fake price tags the buyers/sellers do not have the same information (or access to it).

Protip: Whenever an offer sounds like it's too good to be true, be especially carefull.

I mean this is why we have the ignore feature in the game. Just put these people on your ignore list, and get on with your life.

I find players that expect me to hold their hand through a trade to be just as frustrating. I know that there are new players, and when I get a sense that I'm dealing with a new player, I'm happy to help. But when someone with 30 challenges complete messages me and goes "HI", or sends me a friend request before even saying anything... It is a bad sign.

A scam involves a scheme, swindling or fraud.

If I sold you can item and told you lies about it or things that could do that it normally wouldn't able to do. That would be a scam.

If I said buying xyz item for 30c and then my friend later said selling xyz item for 20c, and you bought that item thinking you can sell it to me for 30c. But then I wouldn't buy it from you since it's part of the plan, that would be a scam.

If I used a master crafting service with a person running it had a rep thread and other stuff, and they don't return my item after payment. Then that is a scam.

Lowballing someone, "borrowing items" from a friend and not returning it, trading currency that they will flip, paying in lower currency because they "swapped in" a lower amount of money.

They are all not scams, they range from perfectly fine/your fault to accepting payment without proper verification.

They can be scummy, unethical or douche bag bag behavior, and sometimes illegal in real life (I pay ou in 100 pesos instead of 100 dollars. But you accept the transaction.). But they are not scams. If GGG "Cracked down" on all scams and banned people for doing it, all above would still be legal in the game unless said otherwise.
