Sorry, but that is bad design
If it's great for "the players with extremely well built characters at very high levels", then it surely must be good for PoE...
Unfortunately build/level doesn't matter in the least. Either you spam from off screen or you have purity + topaz flask + elemental adaptation. Oh, this is with enfeeble on her of course.
My main question is why does the hell is this boss in a 71 map? If that level of damage is intended it should be a 75+ map at the very least.

After Kripp's video, I got messages about how that boss is really too easy, and other players had downed that boss with similar mods much faster.
and how many of these players were simply spamming ranged attacks from off screen at her? Sorry, that is not challenging for a reason.

Maybe you would realize those players avoid challenges because they just want to be high in ladder.
I have never seen any of them fighting Vaal in Maze for example.
Here is an example how Prozon and I handled Vaal during the 1 month ladder race in HC.
He was ranked 2nd and I was ranked 5th nobody of us had extremly good EQ.
twitch.tv/search?query=hilbert#stq=hilbert&stp=1
I think I had around 2k ES and 4k HP at that time.
You will never see those players in a real challenging HC league like Turbo because a majority of easy bosses become hard as Maze Vaal.

I am just wondering if the intended boss difficulty is 'stack lightning resist above 90% or spam from off screen'. That is not real difficulty, and that is what this fight is currently. This is also how the crematorium piety fight felt, boring ass stat check. Got max light resist? Nope, okay you're dead. Ohhh, you do? Simple. Now its just elevated to needing 90+% resist rather than 75%. If this is the intention, I guess I will just accept that, but I really think GGG can do better than arbitrary resist checks of this magnitude.
We see a similar mechanic with Merveil and her unavoidable Cold Snap, but the damage difference is insane. I would assume from fighting them that Piety on Temple does at least 10x the damage that Merveil does on the Graveyard Map. With 83% cold resist merveil didn't scratch me with Cold Snap, with 83% lightning resist I died instantly to Piety on the first encounter.

Players taking down Piety quickly in this type of map encounter aren't doing it with Piety off screen.

ok, so purity + flask + adaptation + enfeeble. Got it.
Edit:
Actually, I will just skip the boss. Not worth the trouble of carrying around the stupid flasks.

AS title shows. I've just watched kripp downing an INSANE Piety. Some things in this game truly is next to IMPOSSIBLE for ALL builds that HAVE to be ONSCREEN in order to down certain mobs and bosses.
That video shows the map Piety, with the exact set of mods on that map that would make it very hard.
This very hard end game content is exactly what we have been asked for from the players with extremely well built characters at very high levels.

We will continue to have hard challenges in maps, and we will continue to allow mods on maps that make some challenges harder for some builds.
Extremely well built characters, or characters that take advantage of skills / mechanics which are not yet balanced if not downright broken?

I wonder how many people who play melee asked for bosses like that.
I wonder how many people who play melee said it looks too easy.
So we can expect this game to remain nothing but a ranged orgy of elemental damage?
Because if so that is the most boring vision for an arpg i could imagine.
Revamped Cleave and a sword Sweep will not come ANYWHERE close to touching the discrepancies in this game right now, its not funny anymore.

But you dodge the main point of this thread. WHAT to do with offscreen play? Is it fun? NO,is it fair? NO. Also I never said to make the game easy I said to balance the game (you should see the difference since you're a game designer in "balance league"). It's VERY unrespectful to put words in other mouth like you did.
Also if you want the game to get hard for range builds then implement some kind of range to ranged skills and stop ppl from offscreaning mostly of the battle and take the last hir on screen to get loot...

Amen brother! But sadly the message seems to be lost somewhere. Qarl really did quote the main text of this post but still failed to deliver a standpoint regarding ranged vs melee builds (aka on/off- screen).
