Ok i was playing the game and it went down for a patch and when i installed it, it want run it says please update your operating system.......wtf?!!?!

Same here. I run Windows 7 without Service Pack 1. I think that is the issue. But I have good reasons for not wanting to use SP1... So this means no more Path of Exile for me??? :( That sucks.

well im not updating to sp1 because my pc will not work. and im certainly not buying a new version of windows just to play this game for Christs sake.

" There should be a directory in your install dir called "Redist" and inside that a file called "VC_redist.x86.exe". Does running that help? If it's not there I would like to know that as well. Path of Exile II - Game Director

I have the exact same problem using windows 8...
I tried running VC_redist.x86.exe as Jonathan suggested but it throws an error ("0x80240017 -Unspecified error"), here's the logfile:
