So this is ultimately an indictment of the trade system? Fair enough...
I'm just sad that neither of them could tell the difference between a genuine 'scam' and a mere ripoff. And a ripoff of a whole 4 chaos. Wow.
Not just the trade system, so much, as the whole player interaction system. We've got no tools for removing people from our maps or hideouts if things go sour interaction-wise. The only interactions we have are Duel/Trade/Invite/Kick - not really very comprehensive for multiplayer-centric party/trade based ARPG.
Very true. And it's totally redundant to say how many times we've gotten on GGG's back about these 'QoL' improvements.
But honestly, dude, I think the best way to eradicate these sorts of encounters is to remove any need to interact to begin with. I love that GGG tried to fight that tide, but after playing other games with streamlined trading systems and other non-textual means of playing together (GW2 being the obvious example), I think it's time to concede defeat there and let people do what they want to do: gear up asap and get back to playing.
Because you can't expect anyone to be nice online. It's nice when they are, but you can't expect it. And given how tense, angry and volatile PoE can make a person (and GGG are fully aware of this), this game more than many really needs to ease up on the forced interaction to engage in 'gearing up'. I've traded a fair bit and never once had an encounter such as what happened here, and I could say it's because I always use smileys and go to some effort to be personable, but that's purely anecdotal. Oh, and if the quoted text said 1 chaos and someone came back with 5, I'd say no thank you and move on. Or, if I really wanted it, I'd say 'that's not the price you listed but I'm in a hurry/don't care so let's do it' JUST so that person knew I knew.
Which is essentially what happened here -- Zeno didn't care but the other person mistook his haste and nonchalance for ignorance. And mocked him for it. And feelings were hurt. And then it went boom.
This post explains everything you need to know about what happened in this incident (which happened to be recorded), and the hundreds and thousands of similar incidents that continue to happen with PoE's "current trading system".
Is there a proverbial straw that breaks GGG's back and gets them to finally do something? I'm not sure. But this should, at the very least, open their eyes and unplug their ears.
I still don't understand why it takes years to make fixes to the game. Especially when "better" alternatives/solutions have existed for a decade. this isn't just about trading. It's about guilds, it's about desync (thankfully they finally fixed that one...sorta), it's about PvP... the list is long.
GGG don't need to reinvent the wheel. They've already redesigned the car (in this case PoE vs. D2 etc.). Put the gosh darn wheels on the car (trade system etc.) and feel free to redesign the rims/whatever. But for the love of the Goddess (unleashed :P) put the ______ wheels on the _______ car already.

wow. would have been so easy to just put him on ignore and move on like you should for every seller who says "offer".
That's.. a really bad mentality to have. So what, someone who doesn't know what their item is worth cannot trade; at all?
In the rare cases where they don't know or have some clue. How would they go about selling the item? Guess or assume the offer was good?
In the remaining cases, they just want to see if your offer is an overpay.
A practical example: I ask someone how much for their item. They say offer, I say 3 ex. They say nty. I say, okay how much do you want for it. They never respond.
Another example. I ask someone how much for their item, they say 50 ex. I say ty but above my budget. At the very least I have an idea of the market value of the item and there is a possibility of compromise.
A trade system in this case does nothing when the seller is unresponsive and completely unwilling to compromise. Terrible player attitude is as much to blame as a non existent trade system.
I'm no master trader, but this is not the game I play. You guys are trying to make or want to believe the trading system in this game is Wal-Mart. Standardized pricing across the board. You pay $25 for a shirt at store A and ab and C and so on. That's not the game and never will be. This game is a garage sale. You browse, you find oddities, you find items costing $2 when they are worth $1m sometimes. I don't know why everyone talks of worth. I see items ranging from 1c to 200ex. Same equivalent item. Who's to say what an iron ring with 65 life, 40 fire resist, 40 cold resist and 10 AS costs? Even with Acuity's, they range from 60ex to 300. Same item. Same rolls. There are only a handful of uniques that are priced tightly. The rest is whatever and you just hunt for deals. I don't know how you get scammed if you're the one browsing on PoE trade. You can see what things are worth by mere deduction.

We shouldnt witch hunt Zeno here. His reaction was a dick move and unacceptable.
But im pretty sure that someone like this, who cant even get over a sarcastic comment, shouldnt represent this community.
Maybe he should leave the podcast, since he just earned himself a pretty bad reputation.

Why does this thread even exist? If someone said that to me I would get them back the same way Zeno did if I could.
Request to delete thread please. Name and shaming is not tolerated.
