Zeno - Trade Etiquette

Quick Summary:

Zeno tries to buy an item from XYZ, finds a seller that charges him above market cost. Seller says "ty for scam <3" after the trade finishes, and Zeno gets a little weird by entering his map, running his Zana, looting all the map drops, then doing the original maps boss room. This is accompanied by a lot of shit-talking, homophobic insults, and chanting about "justice porn".

I sort of regret alerting you now. This is really something best left on reddit. I don't think it's any surprise to anyone here that the top streamers can be extremely petty and immature. They're top streamers. THIS is their life. Naturally they'd lose some perspective on what it means to be a decent human being, especially to mere names on the screen.

Don't blame yourself, I would have seen it anyway, and I would have posted it anyway.

We have some really positive representatives in the POE community, and streamers account for a number of those. Zeno does great work with the State of Exile podcast by providing a high-traffic discussion forum for experienced players, as well as providing advertising and a community portal for POE on Twitch.

This kind of stuff isn't representative of the wider community, however hiding it away and not discussing it does a disservice to the rest of us. Cross posting it here isn't about generating more drama, but rather an invitation to reflect on how we sometimes comport ourselves in the game (and maybe outside it as well).

I agree, this shouldn't be swept under the rug nor is it meant to deface a well known player, instead should be an example of how we can improve our conduct in game. I have watched his patch commentary when he hosts it with other well known streamers. Their very informative.

All I know is to me this was more than acting up or slipping. This was a show of true colours.

Zeno is incidental, he CAN be held accountable because of his streaming, but what is more at point is that anonymity affords a lot of people the opportunity to not be held accountable for similar actions and behaviour.

The backlash from the reddit side of the community (who are also strongly represented here and vice versa) is indicative that a lot of players don't want to see this kind of behaviour in the game. That is not realistic, of course, due the the very combative nature of trade itself - but being able to see the side we don't often see (either the reflection in the mirror, or behind the scenes of those we interact with), can often provide a great opportunity for empathy.

At the very basic level, it indicates a need for a better system for trade interaction and player interaction, or at least an open discussion about what GGG envisions for it.
