Trading in standard league problems- auction house suggestion

First off: the trade chat is pretty useful in the specialty leagues, but absolutely HORRENDOUS in standard league.

-There are far too many people using standard trade chat for this medium to be effective. This is compounded by people spamming large blocks of items two or 3 times in a row to clear the screen of other offers.

-Also there are many many people posting terrible low ball offers for currency exchange every 20 seconds or so for hours on end hoping someone will fall for their deception.

The signal to noise ratio is very small making trying to use standard league trade chat more or less a waste of time. This is compounded by needing to stand around in a single area to put your offers up every minute or two, since item links will expire if you go to other areas i.e. play the game.

The best solution for these problems is an auction house. That being said, we have to learn from Diablo 3's mistakes in it's implementation:

First off no real money auction house. I won't go into detail on this, but essentially the pay to win debate comes into play, and also it can potentially restrict development decisions towards gear (i.e. nerfs) by changes leading to potential breaches of contract (legal issues).

I don't think an auction house would have the gear creep as bad as Diablo 3 had it. POE spawns gear with impunity just like Diablo 3 ( causing inflation), but currency is consumed faaar more effectively than in Diablo 3. I think we may see more gear for gear trading in a POE auction house, than selling.

That being said, a POE auction house would probably be more of a series of bids that a player chooses from, rather than going to the 'highest bidder'. This is because POE does not have standard currency, and meeting a price can be done in multiple ways. a 14 exalt price can be met in chaos orbs or other currency, or a piece of gear with a similar price.

Also, an auction house may be best suited for standard league only a first. If it does have a negative impact on the game, then at least it is limited to the league that is fairly over saturated anyway.

Finally, this system would completely cut through the spam, especially on keeping the noise down from the people putting in low ball global offers, hoping someone will fall for their scam. Their offers can be placed up on an auction house, but there will be many other offers up there to expose their deception.

All in all it will clean up a lot of the nonsense around trading and free up our time to play the game.

It would help if you state your reasons. This is an official section of the forums where GGG staff will be reading through, so it is best to keep useless replies to a minimum.

You also posted before I was done reading through my own post for the final editing of any errors I missed. I highly doubt you can read that fast AND gather a proper opinion of everything I put forth.

1) GGG stated that they don't want to implement an AH into the game. Is that clear enough?
2) Inability to pay in "mixed orbs".
Yes, it is pretty hard to code because there are no "constant" exchange rates for orbs
3) Bots
4) Flippers
5) NO, THANKS

And there are, already, at least 5 "alive" threads about an AH.
What makes your so special that you decided to create one?

The primary purpose of my original post was to outline the problems with the current trading system for the consideration of the GGG staff. The first step in policy creation is to ask: is there a problem? As far as I can tell, a formal trading system is needed to overcome these obstacles, and prevent them from detracting from the enjoyability of the game.

That being said, I did a search for 'alive' AH threads. Only stuff from a year ago or more came up. Also nothing about GGG's stance on it, other than no real money AH. Search function could use an upgrade I guess.

Also GGG would not have to code any conversion, just list all offers to chose from.

Flippers are already a problem, and in my argument they are a bigger problem currently by cluttering up chat. There are 'players' who are even blatantly saying that they want to buy any 6 link at 25% off currently in standard trade chat.

OMG !!! Did you really NOT see that there have been 1000 similar posts before ?
Did it REALLY get past you that we have poe.trade ? That site is all the auction house we ever need, use it and say goodbye to trade chat --> problem solved. The solution is already out there, you just need to use it.

OF COURSE trade chat sucks !!!! That´s why everyone with 2 brain cells puts their items in a shop and lets others find their stuff on poe.trade instead of advertising/spamming their "special offers" in trade chat all day long.
Repetita iuvant: the deterministic approach for the gameplay has been reached only after the suggestion have been repeated and explained a lot of time, as well as after the infinite complaints about desync.

POE really and definitely need a different auction house with respect to the current, external, ones (such as poetrade).

I also want to stress that the introduction of a standard currency, if properly designed, would be very healthy for the economic system. The initial goal of GGG to have 'a Wreaclast wolrd without currency' is a complete fail. Exalteds ARE currency. More precisely, they have all the bad characteristics of currency which GGG wanted to avoid, but they do not have the good ones.

Furthermore, there are a lot of complaints about the introduction of an in-game AH, but all of them can be solved by a proper design of such AH/trade system.

Basically, the new AH/trade-system should achieve this goal: allow a player to have a fair chance to get items for his planned build, without reducing the rewarding experience of skilled gameplay and without making trade a meta-game. Also, a good auction house should be designed to be an obstacle for RMT and bots.

Some of us realize that PoE is an old-school ARPG and like it that way. Others come from a more modern perspective and want to change PoE into that kind of game. The two parties fight over this issue (and others) routinely. Old-schoolers tend to win, as the new breed of players have an attention span measured best in microseconds.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Remove MF from POE, make juiced map the new MF.

God, i love people who just choose the lines which "suit" to their own opinion and forgo all the rest.
Let's try it again

1) They are well aware of those "problems".
Main stance was "no auction house in our game", not only RMAH, but any kind.

2) random list of AH threads with date of creation

3) It seems to me that you didn't fully understand the "currency system" in PoE.
Please describe, how would you (or how should GGG) implement "orb conversion system" into AH for such situations:
a) some guy has listed price in chaos - i want to pay in any other orb;
b) price in Exalts - i want to pay in mix of various orbs;

Note that everyone may have thier own "conversion rate" for each orb.
So how should this be implemented "into simple AH", huh?

4) If you still can't understand why exactly AH would be bad for most of players,
when we have people with thousands of Exalts and other orbs,
who might simply "buyout" half of the AH and re-bid (for example) uniques for insane prices
just for fun - i have nothing else to discuss with you.
