(Dec 17) HC Weekend Clear-a-thon League

Honestly It's not about the prize at this point. I've also realized that this sort of thing applies to all HC leagues.

For example if by hard work and a lot of grinding you get a level 100 HC character and then you die. You are suddenly not on the HC ladder any more. All that work and you are not even locked in as a legacy.

I had a 2 level lead when I died. I could have sat out the last 20 minutes of the game when it stated crashing and acting weird.

Basically what everyone is saying is that I should have. Take zero risks, because if you died you might as well have not played.
A hardcore graveyard would be nice indeed. Is this what you mean ?

I think dead players should be visible in the ladder but not be eligible for any top-ranking prizes.

Did you ever play HC ladder on D2? If you died you kept your place on it. Obviously you could no longer advance on it. But just because you died, you where not erased from existence.

I think why I'm so mad is that removing dead players is contrary to any other ladders I've even heard of. A ladder keeps track of player progress, dead ones and live ones.

I mean what if everyone died when the servers started failing at the end, leaving only a level 3 character to win first place. An extreme example, I'm aware, but something I think needs to be considered.

Would that be fair to the dead players? Would it be fair to the idea of a competition in general? HC ladder races should not be about getting a safe lead then sitting in town to keep yourself from dying.

Edit: Why should a dead player of higher level not be awarded a prize? If they are still the highest level character at the point the league ends they should win.

We'd love to support freezing people in place on the ladder once they've died (and we will add this), but requires quite a revamp of our ladder system that isn't scheduled for the next few patches. It's coming though!

I guess I can simmer down then if it's going to be added.

Sorry if I came across as confrontational.

Will there be any changes in regard to how HC ladder races will be run between when the ladder freeze gets implemented and now? I would hate to have what happened to me happen to someone else.

Personally, I prefer the existing method of Hardcore Ladder ranking. If you die, you are no longer part of the league. This is the purest Hardcore Ladder I've seen, and I find it very appealing.

Why should someone who dies get recognized in a league they are no longer able to participate?

It also makes the ladder more meaningful. By keeping someone who ranks and then dies on the ladder, it skews the ladder and it won't be representative of the active players who are continually exposing themselves to the risk of death in order to attain a higher rank.

If you want preservation of rank after dying, play Default League.
"We were going to monitor the situation but it was in the wrong aspect ratio."
Any chance people who hit 25 will get an Exalted since nobody got close to 28?
Why should someone disappear without a trace for the having the poor luck to find a bug? I'm assuming that most players die in HC to bugs.

No removing players that die will have the opposite effect to what you state. The only players on the ladder long term will be the ones who take no risks, they are the ones that find no bugs.

Upon dying in HC as an Epic high level character your reaction, after the obligatory round of cursing, should be a sense of pride that you set the bar for subsequent players. You should feel that you set a benchmark that your next characters will be judged by.
As an aside have prizes been put in accounts yet?
