2.1 pure life SRS [2.1 DPS calc]

Hi, Matrix, great guide and build. You used hybrid for leveling. Can you explain why it was no endgame option for you?

With hybrid you need your ES there to survive. But you don't have a way to make ES recharge. You can't use ghost reaver to leech it like cast/attacker hybrids, and high % regen ZO is expensive. With essence surge you're still looking at 2.55 seconds before recharge starts, and then another 3 seconds for ES to recharge. So after an engagement you're forced to wait 5.55 seconds before you can engage will full HP again. On maps with desecrated or burning ground your ES recharge is practically always interrupted, unless you're playing very carefully. Now that's just the annoying part. The dangerous part of life/ES is that you don't always have the chance to get your 4-6 seconds to get your ES back. Sometimes mobs keep leaping onto you, or atziri keeps attacking you, or devourers keep popping up. With a life potion specialist you can just use a pot (one use of a pot Catalysed Eternal heals my entire 4.8k HP in 1.7 seconds) whenever you need it.

Greetings, sir.

I wanted to share that I appreciate the work you've done on fleshing out a great SRS build and also to ask your opinion.

I am sure it is not terribly innovative, but I am leveling an SRS Scion that I plan on using dual totems with. The totem nodes are right next to the nodes I would already pick up, and dropping two totems takes less than a half a second with them so I wouldnt lose much off the self cast. This setup would of course be very gem hungry, but I was wondering if you thought the DPS may be worth it. If this has already been tried and dismissed, I was hoping for insight into why.

Here is the tree I am looking at so far:

http://cb.poedb.tw/us/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAwABA-4EswagEQ8UsBZvFy8YVhhqGjgabBzcHRQdviSqJLAnLyj6KhMy0TOHNZI26TpYOuE7DT8nRUdKyEwtTLNNuU3jVcZYB1jlWW1Z81orWpFfmGSEZlRmnmh0aPJqrGvbbqpyD3gve8N85YCkgh6Cx4Lkg9uFMoVgiECKr48aj0aQEZAzkFWUb5SgmK2boaIAo_KmV6aspwiofarErJi18riTvrzAZsy8zzLQH9P72E3Yvdpi2wvjauvu7Irv6_Af8kX3wffX-b356PrS_gr-jw==

The plan is the use a 5 or 6L staff for self cast SRS and a 5 or 6L chest for the totem SRS setup, either supporting them with a full DPS suite, or with culling strike and magic find options. This would allow a 4L helm with +2 minions (I don't plan on being able to afford an alpha howl for a long time) for a spectre setup, 4L gloves or boots for zombies + guardian with life and fortify and a remaining 3L for generosity anger and hatred with a socket for flesh offering.

Thanks in advance for your time.
^^This is an interesting idea.

Going the other direction, I'm playing now as a DFT and I'm leveling SRS gems to flip for 20Q before I roll the build. On a 4 link - srs, multistrike, melee physical damage, and spell echo, the skulls do booty damage. Albeit I haven't take a single minion damage node. But my totems are straight raw dog killers!

Interested to hear MaxFactors take on your idea, but if I had to guess, doing "too much" will likely make one or both of your skills underwhelming.

So the reason we never bothered with adding double totems even when they cost just 4pts is that they don't do anything to solve the main problem with SRS' DPS: ramp up time. Placing an SRS totem takes 0.55sec with 20Q spell totem. Then the totems take 0.9-1sec to cast a single spirit (depending on how much cast speed you wear). So after 2 seconds with totems you'd have: 2 totems, 3 SRS. With a self-cast build you'd have 6 SRS (0.29 cast time). Since L20 spell totem is a 0.69 damage multiplier, and you're missing a ~40% more support gem compared to self-cast, your 3 totem-casted SRS count for 0.69*1/1.4*3 or about 1.5 regular SRS. So without totems you're doing 2-4x the damage in short (5sec-2sec, respectively) fights compared to totems.

Yeah that's what I figured, more upfront damage with pure selfcast versus more sustained and cascade damage with the totems. seems like a play style preference, though taking up a 6L with the totems sacrifices quite a bit of utility. Makes sense to me.

Thanks for the input and again, great work on the guide and calculator, its very much appreciated.
Hey, What would you be linking when doing Atziri / Uber? including the possibility of a Lv4 Empower
Hi,

I'm relatively new to SRS and I'm currently running a 6l Staff with +2 Fire. While the 5l is very obvious. I'm not sure if I rated the rest of the possible support gems correctly.

Echo > Minion Dmg > Melee Phys > Melee Splash

Now for the other gems I assume it's something like

Culling > Emp4 > Emp3 > Multistrike > Added Fire > Emp2

While I'm pretty sure Culling and Emp4 are on the right position I'd like some more insight on the rest of the gems especially the different levels of Empower.

Also for singletarget the best option is to switch Melee Splash for Melee on Full Life, while that's the best option for Atziri, I think in a few situations that's not the best one either because the boss has AoE or some adds do, what would be second best replacement? Empower(which level), Multistrike or Added Fire?

Hope someone can answer my questions.
