Please educate me, why does anyone consider PoE to be "hard"?

It's not hard anymore, you can faceroll through the game pretty easily if you somewhat know what you're doing. A couple of years ago it was harder. But easier than Diablo 3? My cat plays it from time to time, no problemo xd

You're basically judging this game by its tutorial. Which takes some time, indeed.

You know something like 5% of all players or some other absurd number actually reach maps? Doesn't that mean maybe GGG should focus on making that 'tutorial' actually more engaging gameplay wise? Instead of being so easy? You need to learn to think outside your own scope of gameplay.

You will feel the difficulty and how good/bad is you build, starting from : Merciless - The Ebony Barracks.
Then map bosses ofc.

Come back after you kill Dominus in Merciless and tell us your story :)
Go look at the 1 month HC ladder, just scroll down through the list, when over 50% of players are dead, I would define that as hard.

After Normal difficulty is Cruel. When you start Cruel you get penalty to your elemental resistances, so you won't have 75% across the board anymore unless you upgrade your equipment.

After Cruel is Merciless and the resistance penalty goes up to -60%. That means you again need to upgrade if you want to stay at 75%.

The amount that your armor protects you is displayed based on an equal level opponent.

Your 1000 armor, at the end of Merciless will reduce around 5% of physical damage.

A useful amount of armor is 5000, otherwise you may as well have 0. To actually be a tank that doesn't die, you want 8,000 to 10,000. A high armor rating is 15,000 with temp flask buffing to 30,000 or more.

So, to get that armor rating, and the 75% resistances, and some Chaos resistance so that you are not sitting at -60, and get all that on gear with Sockets and Links for your build is not straightforward at all.

And all that is just to get to what is the start of the End Game... mapping. Everything you just went through, and will go through 2 more times in Cruel and Merciless is not how you will spend your time after that. It's all about the maps and they are much, much, much more difficult.

Wow Clive! I had no idea of those numbers... interesting and worrying at the same time.
Some people are fairly new to the stuff that PoE throws at them, gamers that have been around for a while get where the game is coming from and are able to deal with it...new gamers have to learn on the fly which can take quite some time since they are getting spoiled in many of the mass market games.

Take resistances, when you first got to merveil did you find it hard to understand the cold damage and that having resistances for it would make it much easier?
There have been a fair few threads about that being "hard" when it's not really...the dificulty is that the new gamers are unfamiliar with the concept of resistances...even WoW dumbed it down

I never said that I disagree with that. Sure it should be more thrilling, sure it's too bad that every character has to be boring for hours. But it doesn't work that way right now.
