THE Loot Filter should be -A- GAME OPTION, period.

I've been avoiding these threads, but then curiosity got the better of me.
Lol @ OP comparing a boolean list structure with simple syntax to C++ programming. Also, imo, this is insanely much easier to use than an in-game UI. I don't think people realize how tedious and convoluted an in-game UI would be. What I would like, however, is an in-game text editor so we can modify lootscripts on the fly without having to minimize the game. Devolving Wilds

So having finally gotten past pages of wretched trolls starting fights, my thoughts: this is infinitely preferable to a twelve-page-long list of toggle switches. You think the scrolled options page is long? A loot filter toggle list would be so much longer as to come out somewhere on the far end of comical--and even then, it would lack several of the features that this script solution offers.
This puts control squarely in the hands of the player, without any concessions or compromises for an in-game GUI or options menu. |

its ugly and it needs a proper UI

" c++ basic programming syntax isnt hard either. a middle school student can learn the basics in probably a month or so of 1 hour per day if he/she understands basic logic. they can write basic loops and control structures in probably a week or two. of course, to understand the big picture and being able to actually program (or obfuscate things :P) is quite another story- Ive met people who majored in CS unable to program well or understand 100% of what they do, a lot of times due to layers of abstraction. |

For all those expecting that a graphical UI will make things better, I tell you: that's almost like visual programming (for example, PLC programming). It won't really change in difficulty or clumsiness.
You'll get something that feels like this: ![]() And believe me, there is no fundamental difference with text, except that you were fed graphical interfaces all your life and you can't adapt to text (it happens, it's normal). I learned to make programs of that difficulty when I had fourteen. I'm sure if you can do a build, you can overkill this shit. Add a Forsaken Masters questline

" Thing is, it's only ugly if you make it ugly. You get to choose every single color you use, so if there's one you don't like, you can simply change it. Also, no proper UI could have possibly been programmed. Some people don't want to see scrolls, some others do. Some people want to see items of specific kinds for crafting. Some people want to see 5 links, some others don't, etc... In order for everybody to be able to use a filter they find practical, you would need an user interface with a ton of options, making it very impractical. Or you would have to use standardised filters, which are hardly any better. I think that, no matter what would have been done, even with a "perfect" system, there would have been complaints, either because people are never happy, or because they like trolling. |

You guys are seriously underestimating children (who probably shouldn't be playing this game at all) and old people. They're not dumb, you know.

Wait...
Is anyone here seriously expecting that there won't be a thread within 3 hours of loot filters being live with a loot filter build by someone also behind one of the big PoE tools, used by the majority of streamers and subsequently a majority of players? Sure, some are going to make personal filters. But even then they're most likely going to be tweaks based on some massively popular filter. If you possess the magical ability to copy and paste you'll be able to have the singular best loot filter just like everyone else!
