tried self found but failed.

D3 system is fine for that game, drops are more likely to be tailored to the player class and the game has unique sets per class.

The only way to play self found in poe is to play first with a gear independent MF build something like flame totem or similar for a couple of weeks, them based on the drops build another character. Even so with all the permutations on gear and crafting being so expensive it is still up to luck that for you to find anything decent.

...
or you can farm Dominus all day long and sell anything decent and one shoot everything in a couple of weeks...

on another note d3 has difficult settings you can adjust according, on poe the player has no option but always do the zone that are for their level +- no gear or dps for them... to bad. go lower ?? well mf and experience penalty...

The self found idea is great but it doesnt really work in this game. The only way to get gear is to sell items you cant use and buy items you can use.

that is not true, self found is fine in this game. I play strictly self found in the hc leagues, its easy, and I almost always play physical attack builds that require weapons.

I think those are the only 2 that havent been deleted. Ive leveled many self found characters in hc leagues, never died on any of them, never hit a gear wall, never hit a difficulty wall, just walked through the entire game to the 80s somewhere and got bored, rerolled.

I always start a new hc league as self found dual wield physical attack melee, because apparently every one of those terms are not 'viable' and are multiplicatively 'more' impossible with each other when stacked, and yet its laughably easy, its an absolute joke to level a build like that into the 80s in any hc league. I feel like the biggest stress involved is on your patience to not yolo pop that box, to use enduring cry before you leapslam into that pack, to roll your flasks before Dominus etc. Its just game knowledge, its not even about skill, its knowledge and the patience to apply what you know consistently.

If you have trouble watch Nugis stream and listen to him, over time he will teach you everything you need to know. Thats how I learned to play the game, watching Nugi kite through Chamber Of Sins normal with 1/3 life and no flasks in the top 5 of a race. Learning how to flip items in standard and running around with mirrored gear builds that a child could win with is not learning how to actually theory craft and play the game, if anything its probably going to make you lazy and sloppy.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
I must be imagining myself playing self found and succeeding.. weird.
Never wrestle with a pig. You'll only get muddy, and the pig likes it!

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience!

Played self found in Beyond. And I didn't see what the big deal was. It was easy to cap resists and move forward. I just used a shield. Cuz, that's a great way to get resists and defense, right? Simple really.
I've made a post every season with one of my characters going solo-self found all the way to maps in great detail with great updates and they get less posts then "self found is really hard" posts.

Raise your hand in this thread if you understand the difference between a *self found* character and a *self twinked* character.

There are but a few true self found characters made and played that fit the job description.

=)

Valid point. First char in a new league doesn't have the option though ;)

The diablo 3 "smart" drop system is great for self found and maybe something like that can be implented into here on a self found only league? But i dont think that will workout in this game.

Diablo 3's SF died the day the AH was closed and items became account-bound... smartdrops are just stupid and has nothing to do with SF, smartdrops are for the ex-AH people that otherwise would jump into PoE.
Maybe if the droprates were equal to D3v, then d3 would be a nice option...

Why do people think that SF needs a different league or droprates? That is not what SF is, atleast not for me.

For me it is about the challenge/journey with my current character, i also like to face the RNG and see what it has to offer.

SF is not for all people, you must have a ton of patience and the ability to be happy for the things yuo have, not the things you want.

BTW, took my 15 months to find a Facebreaker, but finally i have the combo, and even in the same league... :D

ime self-found is really not too bad until about cruel act 3/ merciless act 1

especially merciless act 1 because of the resist problem.

merciless self-found is excruciatingly tedious.

i always give up.

you know, if you are not having fun, you shouldn't be doing it.

i think the answer is just to run 1 character self-found and make it a project.

But, for me, playing self-found is just too tedious.

I have to admit, the masters make self-found much, much more reasonable in terms of actually enjoying the game playing that style.

also too. drops still suck :-)

self-found in torment was a decent experience for me, very limiting but also satisfying to some point.

but I would never recommend hardcore self-found
I had quite a few deaths because I coudlnt find gems that would provide me defenses (didnt get arctic armour till like level 79 lol, from vorici no less) in time.
