I came up with a pretty solid theory the other day and now I am even more pissed off at GGG for strangely letting external websites to bridge to a game forum API.

The owner of YZX is Japanese.

I don't know if you have ever realized that the guy who owns this site has basically fast access to ALL the items that are posted for sale and potentially not only for sale on this game forums.

Not only he has faster access than you to all the items, but haven't you ever realized that on YZX you can't filter per number of mods ?

Well you can't as a user, but the owner of the site owns the database, and he CAN filter by number of mods and also search by other type of queries not present on the user interface.

Not only that, but as the database owner, he can program an script that once an item is posted for sale with X mods and X values, send him an email to tell him inmediatly, for example.

Getting fast and exclusive access to the number of mods of an item would mean to be able to buy all T1x2 / T1x3 mod items available on the market.

I can't believe GGG has let this run for so long ... and now I am really concerned about it.

I am not jelly by any means, but when I bought this it is precisely when I started thinking about it.

I work with databases every day.



This is not an standard only problem, as you can search on ANY league as the search engine crawls the whole forum in any league.

This is basically letting the owner of this site to control the market, and major cheating.

Standard Problems.

I got 99 problems..

some points I'd like to address:

1) I never accused the guy of cheating or RMT. randomly looking at his shop after coming in from XYZ, is the first time I saw who AXN is.
I don't know how he got his wealth, and honestly I don't really care.

2) jealous? obviously. everyone would be jealous being poked in the eyes with such wealth.
knowing I take a huge hit every time I buy something for more than a couple Chaos, while this guy can probably buy something with a stack of Mirrors Of Kalandra - and not even feel it.
a whole stack, of something 99.99% of the players including myself will never see. ever.
knowing the guy makes more in a minute, than I could in a year even if I did learn-to-trade.
and I won't. I tried. I hate trading and especially all the "common practices" used by traders. they make my stomach turn.

3) the entire point of the thread is, AXN being a very good example why the PoE "economy" isn't worth all that balancing effort by GGG, and certainly isn't worth designing an entire game around.
why? because imagine one man holding monopoly over most - if not all - the world's markets.
there's a good reason why it doesn't happen, and cannot happen, in real life.

so why don't GGG finally stop messing with the god-damned thing, and focus their efforts where it actually matters?
trade-based my ass. there are a bunch of guys who got all of trade covered, so just stop with the fucking trade-based, and give me some gameplay-based!

To be fair, this isn't something that xyz can exclusively do, anybody with enough knowledge and determination can write a forum-crawler bot that can give near-immediate updates on good deals. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if at least one of the top-end wealthiest players didn't have their own tool that does exactly this (whether they're alt-accounts from major public websites, or just have their own special program they themselves wrote/had written for them).

Though I'd imagine that at the very top end you're much better off offering a mirror service for all the best items in the game than messing around with so many smaller transactions.
