POE on console?

Now and then when I'm goofing around on my Nexus 7 I wonder what a modified PoE would be like on tablet. I imagine plenty of people have offline skill calcs on their devices that they play with endlessly. The touch screen mode would suit Skilldrasil usage quite nicely. As for actual gameplay, I've been impressed with how creative some developers are getting with swipe gestures.

I think a text-heavy prequel elaborating on the Purity rebellion would be awesome.

As for a controller-based PoE? No, I don't think so.

I'm down with this idea, they could sell the licence to Zynga and let them work their MTX magic :)

Then tell me why Dark Souls II was released to console? Dark Souls II requires more of a brain than PoE does.

Well, that's wrong, but very rarely a game gets made for consoles that has depth.

Less than a handful each console gen.

Only takes one great exclusive to make the purchase of the console worth it :). Just like with music, tv-series, movies and in any entertainment industry: you can pick the cherries from the cake as long as you can afford to pay for them.

I said text-heavy, didn't I? Zynga players don't strike me as particularly literate.

I meant more the likes of Sorcery! and other Steve Jackson efforts to pop up lately. Basically, a virtual 'Fighting Fantasy' type deal.

Like the old choose your adventure novels we'd read as kids?

Death Trap Dungeon!

I loved that book. The Warlock of Firetop Mountain and Freeway Fighter are still my favourites, though.

If you never read the Way of The Tiger game books, you must purchase them now and do so.

Go on.

Do it.

I'll wait.

it will never happen, and it can never happen. Consoles can't handle the goodness that is a game like PoE. If you want to play on a console play D3. And burn your PC.

Ha! Funny, but you're actually right to some extent, this game would almost certainly lag when it rains on consoles, even though there are much more visually stunning games out there that run just fine.

If you take out keyboard and mouse from a game like this, then you'll find that your archer has to be played like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6zy0DjqI5k

Getting a keyboard for the few times you trade is doable, that's how other online games have handled that part.

As for 5 flasks, that's far easier:

L1 (L1 is a modifier like shift/ctrl in PCs) + left stick is already enough to replace to 8 keys.
There are 4 modifiers: L1, L2, R1, R2 so that together with left stick is already room for 4*8 = 32 keys.

Use right stick to move (360 degrees movement in the style of wasd, no "clicking"). And yes, you can design the right-stick movement so that a light touch will only switch the direction you are facing, while it takes a stronger touch to actually move in that direction.

Triangle, circle, square and X with 4 modifiers is already room for (1+4)*4 = 20 keys.

As you can see there is no problem fitting enough functions into a typical controller. The only part that the controller can't do is to replace the keyboard for trades, that's why you need a keyboard ready to switch to for the few minutes you want to trade during your gaming session.
