this sums it up. block is the king of defense in this game. crit is the king of offense - infinite flasks is HUGE! non-crit builds have little chances for 100% uptime of utility flasks in fight like atziri when there are long periods of 1v1.

mandatory keystones wont solve it

what should be done is sadly nerfs - surgeons flask mod-> gone, block rework from 100% mitigation to diminishing returns. no sane person will take 2h over 1h+shield if survival is needed. just because of block. 75% less attack damage, 50%+ less spell damage? why not! (Wings of Entropy - ignored, this unique is broken just because of block it provides.. and while it is technically 2h it really isnt)


Honestly i dont care about nerfing surgeons, or block, i think they are find, i think 2h builds are not fine, they should be buffed, nerfing surgaons and block doesnt help 2h melee in any way.

Those build paths work well in the endgame, i think that most build archetypes should work as good as 1h + shield or dw, but 2h is just completely underpowered compared to these, it has less dps and less defensiveness, it doesnt make any sense to cahnge something that is working fine while something that is clrearly broken and shitty is just left there.

And atziri is just insane, if i dont use a fire flask the flameblast 1 shots me with almost 9k life, the spears hit for around 3-4k, you need very high movement speed and pretty much need spelldodge.

Died at the second split phase 2 times, it cuts after the first daeth then restarts when i tp back in, i had to go for a smoke brake and forgot to turn the fraps on again after finishing the second split.

After doing that fight, its pretty obvious that they did not test it enough with 2h melee characters, since most stuff in the game in not balanced around having legacy or mirrored gear, but this fight pretty much requires you have these items, which you cant get in new leagues and which are very hard to get even in parent leagues.

They need to buff these characters, some form of damage mitigation on 2h nodes is needed, not necessarily life but bonus to endurance charge mitigation, armor, evasion, movement speed, max resists maybe.

As the nodes are now there are only some nodes with IPD and life, on mace,axe and swords, there should be a lot more nodes that increase damage with two handed weapons which also give some defensive buffs, can also add Increased phys damage with two handed axe/sword/mace nodes with defensive bonuses.

Basically GGG does not want to add keystones that are completely necesarry if youre playing a character, so a big node that increases defenses while wielding two handed weapons wont be added since its a no brainer, the only way to buff these buids then is to add defensive bonuses to the weapon specific nodes/two hand nodes.

Baiscally 2h builds have nothing to offer at the moment, they dont do as much or higher dps than other builds and are not as tanky or tankier than other builds, the tankyness needs a buff really badly in any case, but the dps could also be improved so they are on par with other characters, i think buffing crit on 2h weapons and adding crit nodes would be a great start.
Thanks for testing this, i speculated that this was still the case a bit after the patch dropped, didnt have a chance to test it because ive been soo busy making currency back from when i quit and such.

Its pretty obvious by simply looking at the numbers. The same way Dual Wield doesnt offer enough offense to justify the loss in defensive stats. Honestly the defense of 2 handed builds shouldnt be buffed. Its a 2 handed weapon after all, meaning you trade defense for offense. Handing the builds more defense would just turn it into a 1 handed build without a shield, so theres not much of a difference between either build.

What they should do is to siginificantly buff the damage. Two handed builds should be able to easily out dps 1 handed builds, after all they dropped the shield for doing so. Maybe even adjust VP in a specific way for two handed builds to make life leech an even better defensive layer.

Nice post, Vic. Sadly it isn't just Ubers, it's all end game in FM.

I've been waiting for a veteran to give some 2H feedback in FM. It was a long time coming because most people are either leveling in temp leagues, metaofthemonth in temp leagues, metaofthemonth in parent leagues or in full mirrored and legacy gear in parent leagues. Then it is usual that even a case that did go 2H in non-OP gear, they are hidden in a party of metaofthemonths :).

Damage in FM is way off the mark for 2H, WAY FUCKING OFF.

My legacy Kaom's thrower, pre FM would facetank Shrine Piety in all forms with up to 4 stacking rip mods. Now that was kinda OP but nothing a 1H and shield couldn't do better, but now? Now her lightning warp take off will hit me for 6-7k in a WHITE MAP.

I resumed the 1.0 2H Spec Throw + Double Strike in SotV as best I could, it took a hit in both life and damage but was still end game solo map viable. I tried, in FM to do the same, massive loss in life, loss in max resists and an increase in damage. Sadly, for a no crit 2H build whose damage is more in the tank range than the dps range, the damage increase and survival nerf simply couldn't compete with the rather insane spike damage in end game maps in FM.

This character is lvl 99, was expecting to end game map solo to 100 in FM as a 2H build.
Sadly she is now relegated to running blue or white 73s for ~1 to 2% in several hours before I switch to other characters for the rest of the day.

Block + spell block + lightning coil, huge deeps, crit and generosities or GTFO.
I really dislike this radical forced meta every few months.

You could keep it shorter and just call it horrible game design. They aren't testing stuff.
They use their 100% cheated characters on internal servers while being overleveled.


The balance devs just drop big numbers and balance around over 75% resists.
2k damage on 85% resists isn't that bad right? 3 casts per second for difficulty.


That's why invasion was an utter failure, added exiles were also hated and beyond is pretty much the same.

Max Block Chars with a level 20 AA and a bunch of Spellblock are soo much fun ....

Pls GGG fix real builds
Rogue exiles are awesome. Only one was *truly* overtuned. Orra was insane on release.

@Anuhart, why you stand next to Lightning Warp? It has a cast animation.
