Is Shop Too Expensive?

Some of the effects is bit pricey, so most of the time I buy from the daily deal.

But it's free game, the best ARPG game at the moment. I paid the supporter package not because for getting those effects, because I feel GGG deserve it for the amazing work been doing.

yea, lots of games are "free" but they dont charge these kind of prices. Your argument is really pointless, because being free doesn't mean they are justified to charge whatever they wants. With your argument it would be okay if they charged 1,000 per effect because its free.

Your argument is unjustified. They are completely justified in asking for the money it takes to run their business.

What is your job? Do you even have one or does someone support you? Can you support yourself and/or a family without being monetarily compensated for doing your job? I find it annoying and stupid when I have customers who insist on trying to buy things from me below cost (What I pay to get something in stock) and go out of business for them. If everyone sold everything below cost everyone would be broke and no one would have money. That's just not how business works. GGG has costs. Server costs, location costs, legal costs, human resource costs etc that all have to be paid for. None of which come from giving the game for free. As such, you can spend as much or as little as you want to support them. It's a much more trusting business model than most companies have. They basically say "Here! We did a bunch of work for you! If you feel like paying us any amount for what we did for free, we would really appreciate it!" It's very counter intuitive to most business standards. It's honest though, so, so far it's worked for them. If I did the same thing for my cheap ass customers I would have been on food stamps a long time ago - costing them their tax money to put me on food stamps because I wouldn't have been properly compensated for my products and services.

For your information they have, in the past, given the option to support the game with $1000 and design a unique. You can even check the wiki on the uniques and some of them will actually say that they were supporter designed uniques. It's because people actually invested this much into the company that you even play the game today. Because that $1000, assuming they pay a programmer, say... as little as a mere $10 per hour supported one programmer for 100 hours, or 2 and a half weeks pay.

You're right in the fact that they could charge very little. They could also adopt a pay to win model like almost every other company that sells cosmetic microtransactions for significantly cheaper. They could charge for the game and include cosmetics. They could have monthly fees and charge people a billion dollars for microtransactions. They could do all sorts of stuff. They've chosen to use one of the most ridiculous models and say "We will only make money if people actually think our game is so good that they will choose to spend money on it. And well: they need money. Because they have rent to be paid, servers to be paid for, food to be bought, computers to build, games to play, kid's school to pay for, and barbeques for holidays. Because they aren't going to get money any other damn way other than someone spending $20 dollars for digital wings. If you don't want to pay $20 for digital wings, but want to contribute $5 then buy the damn scorpion pet instead.

I personally would look at the Prices in Terms of "Exclusiveness" You're paying for, not something like "Worth" or "reasonable Pricing".
For a Game like PoE that does not have a huge Fanbase, the Strategy with more expensive MTX for the Fans that can & will afford is better than looking for very many people buying very cheap MTX, which should work better in very big F2P-Games.

Greetings,
Keep calm, play PoE, drink Tea & listen to Prog!
Exclusiveness...Do yo ueven look around in towns? How does any character look exclusive to you? The answer - they don't. The costs are enourmous in poe, it is a fact. There is no way a mtx for 1 character should cost more than a retail game. This is just absurd.

10 people by $5 effect: $50

Which makes more sense?

Except it's 20 people buy $5 effect. 30 people. 40 people...
I'm not from the USA, but I believe their entire market is based on this.

Lowering prices = more buyers.
Having discounts and sales = more buyers.
More profit at the end of the day.

And since GGG have no "shippings costs" per MTX, the only thing that could explain selling some of these eye-candy for over $50 a piece, is wanting the control the amount of buyers.
Why? Because their unoptimized trash of an engine, can't handle more than a couple full-MTXed guys entering town at once.

Lol. it doesnt matter for what you buy the stuff in the shop for. You bought the points, thats where you pay real money, not in the shop directly.

Lots of "free" games are pay-to-win others are pay for improved RNG.

Path of Exile is free, all you pay for is appearance ( and stash tabs for hoarders ) compared to the other "free" games which have lower prices mainly because they know that most players that want to get better will be forced to buy item X or Y from their cash shop.

IN such case they should really work on the default item art , these buckets for hats are so ... unimpressive .
Yes, some of the prices are indeed absurd.
Face it. The costs are enormous in any game. The amount of money I spent on WOW is embarrassing, and it's because of the numbers of us that spent hundreds and thousands of dollars on WOW that MTX shops in POE, RIFT, and numerous other games are raking in the dough.

When I left WOW a few years back it was with the intention of never playing a subscription based computer game again. Back to D2, Skyrim, POE, D3, TL2, and others. A lot of good games for just the front buy in or in POE's case, my first F2P while still in Closed Beta.

The only MTX games I play now are POE and RIFT, and they're both bloody expensive. You don't have to pay anything to play if you want to be that way, but if you want to be a little "sparkly" like everybody in these games wants to be, you'd better get out your credit card.

Could POE's prices be lower? Hell yes. They would have gotten a lot more of my money if their prices weren't so high. But with the high prices of their set skins and special helmet skins, I love the Medusa Snakes hat skin but won't ever spend $22.50 for it, I probably won't be buying anything but stash pages ever again.

Buying Medusa Snakes would have paid 2 months of WOW fees for me, and I didn't have to put up with a stingy RNG system on drops and crafting there. If we're going to spend that kind of money, the game should be more rewarding.

Now all you fan boys can come tell me how wrong I am, I guess that's your way of kissing up to Chris and his buds.... But you guys are the ones who are wrong. As soon as OP had the audacity to question the cost of goods in Stores, you couldn't wait to ream his ass, instead of taking a minute to consider that the MTX prices might actually be harming this game rather than helping it.

Just sayin.
Personally I would have bought a lot more MTX if they where cheaper, however I am not sure I would have spent more real money (proberly not in the short run, but very likely in the long run).
Still sane exile?
