Knowing some of the history of GGG and their custom game engine, act 4 will be entirely desync driven. So much so that it will drive most of us out for good. Think about it, the act 3.5 zones have much more desync that the previous content, so it's a good bet that act 4 will continue the increase in desync with every new zone. RNG is a deliberate design feature, so GGG could change it any time they desire, but at this point in time it is an integral part of game play (no matter how many hate its overuse), and thus will probably never change. Desync is the unfortunate side effect of a custom game engine created by the founders because, at the time, Unreal 3 or any other commercially available game engine cost megabucks to license, which new startups (indie game companies) don't have.

thats absolute nonsense, you really should quit posting things you have no clue about mate.

unreal 3 cost too much money thats why there is desync? You realise the desync is cause by the netcode and the CHOICE to maintain certain mechanics in the game? It has nothing to do with the graphics rendering engine and associated dev tools which is really what you are paying for with unreal, an engine designed for first person shooters and general hard server sync games of this nature.

ARPGs dont use full sync engines like fps games. PoE, Diablo 2, Diablo 3, they are all using non sync, you are almost perminantly desynced in all these games. Could Blizzard not afford Unreal engine either? You get rubber banding in D3, that is desync fixing itself, the reason it is less noticeable is because they cut out layers of the chance to hit mechanics and massively uped the range at which you can hit a mob. They hid desync behind making their combat mechanics shit, because they figured people would prefer a shit game to an inconsistent one. PoE decided to keep proper hit mechanics and ranges at the expense of desync being more noticeable.

Its got absolutely nothing to do with licensing game engines or lack of funds, you would know this if you read the dev manifesto on desync. Act3x zones dont have more desync, thats ridiculous, the entire bit I quoted here is actually ridiculous and so far from fact that you shouldnt be posting it.

while right I think he's referring to a post from a dev about when they started POE they couldn't get the unreal engine and so they use their current engine. To switch to unreal would be.. well.. unrealistic. They'd have to start from scratch. The unreal engine, I believe they said I'm going from vague memory, would help (not solve) some of the desync. It would at the least give the task have more options. If I ever find the post I'll try to link it.

Yep, sounds like act 1-4 2 playthroughs. I do wonder if they'll take anything away. The plum quest and that board in general is obnoxious.

really dude? You know what he's talking about. This obsessive compulsion to put people down on the internet through exact wording without thinking about inference or interpretation is downright annoying. He's talking about atziri and uber obviously. Trying to make a joke but people take things far too literally.

let me guess, you were just being sarcastic (said in a voice with a tone that could just as easily have been saying 'der der der' instead

If you read jdilly23's post history or lurk moar you might think differently about his 'trying to make a joke'. Not a personal attack, just saying he isn't the most positive poster on the forums.

Also plus one to Gingerbeast's reply and any other posts that reinforce those points. Hopefully in 10 years or so we'll end up with around 10 acts and one main difficulty level (or Descent Champion system).

I understand from reading these posts that the devs don't plan on taking this route but I always found the idea of a never ending, always updating, game that increases the max level, equipment, and total skill points as content is created attractive. Though I know that would be taxing on them and I'm sure at some point they want to simply complete the game so they can call it 'done' but I thought I'd at least share my fantasy.

I think you were talking about WoW there.

there are few arpg which don't invalidate player's efforts with upgrades and expansion packs.
ggg's idea for people who like permanent resets are the 4 month's leagues, players who don't like resets play the permanent leagues.

a online arpg which isn't updated and upgraded more or less frequently is called a "dead game".

It's very possible that a multi-threaded engine could indeed better handle synchronization.

I expect them to keep the same number of passive skill points. Maybe some of the ones that give 2 passive points (piety) will give 1 now and there will be anotehr quest that gives 1 passive point.

I just hope that they keep them at the very least the same because its going to suck for lld to work with even less passive points :P

I vote to get rid of cruel difficulty altogether. (Not sure if anyone already mentioned.)
Re-scale all levels throughout 2 difficulties or 8 acts to make things less tedious. Also the Uber meta-game (atziri) ought to be slightly more accessible in hc mode. One shot mechanix are stupid in any game and without some specific gear, the meta game will never even be experienced by 99% of the strictly hc player base. Don't make it easy but it ought to be accessable by the top 10% rather than the top 1%.
Why would you want to get rid of one difficulty ?
When I started PoE we had 2 acts and 4 difficulties. Yes, it was annoying to run the same act 4 times with one character. When you created a 2nd one, that means you saw act 1 exactly 8 times ! lol
Now we have 3 acts and 3 difficulties and I say its okay. This game is inspired by Diablo, and that game has 4 acts and 3 difficulties aswell. Diablo 3 has an additional 4th difficulty Inferno. So whats the problem with you guys who want to cut one difficulty ?
Actually I like the most the NG+ feature which is present in the Soul series and Torchlight aswell.
