Why Path of Exile cannot be a hardcore game while desync exists

There is some epic bullshit is this thread, and I don't want legitimate concerns to be pushed aside by some damn forum heros.

Some points I would like to make:

1. Desync exists in every online game - POE just is one of the WORST OFFENDERS.

2. The Netcode is piss poor at best. Granted GGG didn't have unlimited funds to begin with, and now redoing it is a fiscal and manpower nightmare.

3. They are totally in love with Accuracy as a combat mechanic. This won't change.

4. Collisions - Many maps have doorways, rocks, ect.. that cause all kinds of problem, both with players hitting them, and/or monsters doing the same. So yea, way to design maps that cause problems. I mean really can you expand some doorways or something?! Anything?!

5. Skills - Probably the most infuriating of this short list. GGG knows what causes significantly more desync, yet continues to release skills that serve to diminish gameplay experience. Some good examples are cyclone and multistrike. If it didn't piss me off so much it would be funny.

*Finally don't even get me started on other mechanical game issues like graphics optimization, or gameplay balance with solo play, and OP group faceroll. Desync is just the tip of the iceberg.

Understanding what desync is will help you deal with it. You don't seem to. The rubberbanding that you're complaining about isn't desync. You can't fix desync with a /oos command... only force a resync with it. Most players are using /oos completely wrong. They use it when they know that they're out of sync. Too late.

The problems of desync show up when a player is told by his client that he can enter a command (like attack that monster) and the server is in a state where he can't (the monster is in another room). Once you realize that you've done this... too late to hit /oos. You need to hit /oos before you enter the command.

Until you understand what desync is, most of the actions that you take to combat it actually can do more harm than good.

Once you understand it, you don't even really notice it's effects much at all. I've given up trying to tell people this, because they usually get all belligerent. I really wish there wasn't desync. I would prefer a stand alone client that let me play the game on my own, run by my own computer. It sucks not to be able to play the way I would like, and it must suck not to be able to play the game the way you like too.

I really don't see how "hardcore" and this relate though. Hardcore is just a hype term used to get people excited about a game. It has no meaning.

Bravo, just bravo. Too bad GGG is in full turtle defence mode and will never address these points or give us a decent timeline when this crap will be gone.

Vote +1 to change Path of Exile to Path of Nerfs.
We hate to say, but ProjectPT was right.
It's not necessary to write 5 pages full of reasons and motivations to explain that desync is a problem.

Problem is acknowledged

Concerning the desync problem.

In my eyes desync is part of the game, whether we like it or not. It may or it may not be fixed in the foreseeable future but to be frank,i'm not that fused.

I died twice in merc this week from desync to the exact same boss as i was gearing up to map. It was the devourer invader thingie, even though i flasked/leapslammed away when he appeared somehow i ended up right next to him and died, tragically, due to a massive desync in both cases. I was a good 5 rooms away. I was pretty pissed but i let it go cause it was a game and things happen.

Right,so my point is. Hey,move on. No game is perfect or even close to perfection. Accept the reality of desync being an actual thing in the game.

On the plus side, makes hardcore a bit more challenging don't you think? Your build might be perfect for tanking the content but not desync :)

Think of desync as an extra challenge, let's call it "added" content.
Literally every game can be a hardcore game. Depends on how you play it.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

I can't agree more. There are WAY too much junk on the floor to stop you from moving. If you can use cyclone and whirlwind blade etc you get stopped and stuck stuff all over the floor. This is not needed. All these can be taken out to remove all these problem and speed up stuff. I don't see how this post any fun challenge but more like stuff are there to troll you if you use a certain skill. Leap slam, Lightning Warp are all unaffected then why some other movement suffer from them? Remove them can make the game player better and may be less desync. Otherwise, remove the stupid weapon restriction on Leap Slam and etc so I get an alternative if I use dagger if I don't use whirlwind blade. It's not like I love WWB I have to use it. It is more like I don't have a choice to switch to leap slam etc without switching weapon. What if I can't change my weapon (or don't wanna change)? Then I am stuck with crappy desync infested skill because I don't have a different choice.

To the "deal with it" crowd: We do deal with it (otherwise this game would be literally unplayable). Posts that highlight the problem, if nothing else, remind GGG that this is a really big problem and it can't just be swept under the rug with good conscience.

I hope that every time there is a desync thread, someone responsible for this games train wreck netcode gets a sincere feeling of frustration and emberrasment. At the very least, I want to make it so they can't ignore the problem completely.
