Why Path of Exile cannot be a hardcore game while desync exists

Rhys, one of the GGG devs, defined "hardcore" along four axes: time, knowledge, skill, and emotion.

In terms of time, knowledge, and emotion, OP is wrong (and in a way, desync adds to the "knowledge" axis, as the better one understands the intricacies of desync, which is a rather arcane topic, the better one does). In terms of the skill axis, however, he is spot on (assuming we are addressing client performance issues as a whole rather than just desync specifically). PoE can only be hardcore in that way as long as players can depend on the information being presented to them, instant to instant, on their screen.

By the way, the primary threats to the other three axes:
Time - lack of, or poorly designed, randomness
Knowledge - lack of build and itemization balance (particularly in endgame)
Emotion - suppression of, or lack of opportunities for, user-generated content (nothing really to complain about here, IMHO)
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

PoE is a limited information game... like poker. You have to base your evaluation of 'skill' based on that. You can't say that it degrades skill simply because it relies on a different set of skills than a deterministic game, like chess or checkers, has. It's a different skill set.

PoE relies on patience and pacing. Most ARPGs reward recklessness and speed. If you play PoE assuming that the client is giving you complete information, you'll be very frustrated when you realize your assumptions are wrong.

Desync is the reason for never rolling melee in hardcore.

I can't talk about multistrike cyclone, but i found that holding shift while attacking with simple melee skills will help immensely when dealing with desync. (You deal no damage->you hold shift therefore staying in place and being safe->mob is desynced but no consequences to you)

I've gone so far as to not use this anymore and just attack and move all the time. It has become kind of a habit (mostly because of races) and i found it makes it easier to play my melee chars. (If you attack and then move immediately after targeting a desynced monster then although your char will move towards it in the server after clicking again to move away, your char will go where you told it to, eliminating desync)

Another thing you could do ,is target the ground beneath your feet instead of targeting the monster you want to hit. This will tell you which monsters are close to you and which are not and therefore desynced. (The ones not taking damage will be desynced.)

I hope this helps coming from a guy who never uses /oos and has been cleaving in hardcore leagues since Open Beta.

Now, about getting stunned, that's why not many people play evasion chars in hc.
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

hardcore POE is not. Desync too much it is. Know not how OP desync is until play POE did you.

Games all since 1990 much better engine yes. Should have chosen light side not dark side of game engines me thinks hmmm.

But Master Yoda, you have to understand that the desync in this one is strong...

Go play d3. You'd think it's really hardcore.

Lol if he has permanent desync he should get his connection checked instead of killing the server with his /oos spam. And guys like him are the reason we dont have a /oos button.
