Social Interaction from Gaming

Hey i got a idea.

How about guilds can make races in game. Any self contained race like decent or endless ledge or any others in the future. That way players could creat in guild compititions that do not effect the rest of the game servers.

They could post thare guild run stats and stuff and would atract non guild people to guilds to take part in stuff like that.

Also Guild vs Guild PvP chalanges would be cool. If a guild could chalange another guild to PvP that has recorded outcomes could be another really interesting ladder that could be in place . You could almost make a new guild ladder who is king of races and who is PvP king.
Just a sec let me grab a beer...@#*@ Ok how did I die this time

Learn the rules, it's the only way to exploit them.

That's what the paid leagues are for.

I agree with you that it would be amazing, but no way a relatively small company like GGG would give this out for free. Nor should they.
I even think Chris did talk about enhancing the guild's possibilities in future (I specifically remember mentioning guild-only encounters), it just does not seem to be their priority ATM
I spend all day socializing with customers and interacting with a wide variety of people online. For this reason, I do not seek socializing in the video games I play. If I did have that desire, I'd play a genre that specializes on social gaming (either virtual worlds or MMOs).

I'm perfectly fine sitting alone at my computer and grinding away, because that is refreshingly different from having to deal with people. (And if a game forces interaction, as PoE does when it comes to trading, it breeds resentment.)

I do, however, enjoy the forum community, and that covers any social PoE needs I may have.

Reminds me of Jean Paul Sartres (philosopher dude) famous quote: "Hell is other people."

I loved his books. :D
If i want social interaction, i will hang out with my pals or gf, go out somewhere etc. if i want to play a game....i will just play a game. Why does everyone attempt to make everything out to be a scientific lesson. Let me play and kill beasties. I use this and other games as a break from reality, for enjoyment. If i wanted to be analyzed i would go and see a shrink.

I agree with your idea about guild but I find your method of presentation a bit distasteful. Here are a few problems:
1/ yes, humans do need interaction but that doesn't mean humans need interaction ALL the time. So your logic doesn't quite follow from 1st paragraph to 2nd paragraph.
2/ I think you got the definition of "anti-social" behavior" wrong. I can guess what you were trying to say but "anti-social" is not the word.
3/ It is internet and I don't like your use of self claimed facts, which cannot be verified, in an attempt to boost the credibility of your argument.

Finally, there is no empirical evidence suggesting that online bahaviour and offline behaviour are congruent. From my personal observation, what people do in real life sometime is quite different from what people do online. A shy people in real life could be very outgoing online and vice versa.

Like I said, I like your idea about the guild but not the way you present it.

1/ What about the person who works all day, comes home to the computer, and plays games until bedtime? A lot of people do that. This thread isn't for everyone. It's mainly for those who are looking for ways to get better social interaction from a game out of what tools the game has to offer. It's also for those who are on the other side of the fence on this. I'm collecting constructive opinions for something I'm working on, personally. Your opinion counts just as much as anyone else's as long as it's constructive to this post.

2/ I threw anti-social behavior out there just to see responses. Thank you for yours. I'm sorry but I fail to recognize how I got the definition of it wrong, though. Please elaborate.

3/ Self claimed facts? Oh you must elaborate on that one, too, please.

I'm still highly puzzled over how people consider sitting on a computer game, and interacting virtually with others to be social.

That help?

Spoiler
Being facetious about the tenuous nature of 'social' interaction online...on a forum online. Yeah, that really works...

thankyou ;-)

i personally only play games that are multiplayer (except for skyrim and fallout)
its just so much fun to bullshit with other players. exchange stories, talk about hometowns, girls, drugs, share items, inventory, builds, etc whilst slaying monsters. ive met alot of cool people playing POE that ill never talk to again ( dont really keep a friend list intact)
but its like going to a bar and bullshitting with strangers and leaving.

playing a single player game just makes me feel like im wasting time, which in the end all video games are a waste of time (unless you look at it from that 'anything that gives you pleaseure is not waste of time' perspective) but just interacting with people on POE is half the fun for me

I feel the same way you do. Thanks for the post ;-)

THAT is your answer to someone helping you understand why online interaction is still considered a valid form of socialisation?

Conversations with you must be a blast. Cya.

Thankyou for your response ;-)

I really have some awesomely good intentions with this post. I promise.
