How to find a scam in PoE:

Step 1) Open any trade chat channel

Step 2) Read trade chat

99% of all trade chat messages are ripoffs trying to prey on noobs who don't know exchange rates. It makes the honest people buying currencies impossible to find by the people selling currencies. I had to spam for 20 min to find someone willing to sell me scourings for 2:1 chaos when everyone else is flooding the channel with "WTB scouring 3:1 chaos"

Protip: if someone is spamming every trade channel trying to buy "all your currencies" at certain rates all day, that person is just ripping off noobs for profit. Don't sell to them.

Protip: Just post "WTB Scouring 2:1 Chaos" on the noticeboard, it should take less than 3 minutes to get a seller.

Yes, if i wanted to be an inconsiderate jerk I would.
IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands)
Scour 2:1 chaos is a scam though? That's like 1:1 regret to chaos...
the 1 alc + 1 scour = 1 chaos scam

many experienced players will try to rip off players this way

they will defend it to the death to protect their scam, but their arguments are circular

Even if i would, what do you or anyone else care? Its still not a scam. If Nessa sold orbs and sold a chisel for a chaos and clarissa sells them for 2 chaos, are the vendors scamming you?

Well I don't say it's a scam, and I don't really care, but that's still dishonest on the seller's part if he knows about the vendor prices.

I agree, I don't know why this game attracts so many greedy people but I don't bother with trade chat that much anymore. Not that I was bothering with trading in the past, I only did when I needed a certain support gem or currency to fuse, socket, chrom my weapons/armour.

I'm pleased with poe.xyz.is, it is a fast way to find what I need & I don't have to scroll through the spam in trade chat.

That's like trying to go shopping & you find yourself in one street where 10 people scream at the same time about their products & prices all over the marketplace, ridiculous.

Anonymity + wealth/items directly affecting the power of a character and access to gated content + lack more controlled tools like an AH + legacy items that lead to astronomic prices for a relatively large number of items + lack of social consequences (the naming&shaming policy protects these people, though I understand why that policy exists). The result is what we have.

The game encourages and rewards both greed and morally dubious behavior. This adds to the "cutthroat" atmosphere of the setting, but doesn't make the game a more socially cooperative experience. I think this appeals to the younger male audience in particular, but may not be equally as appreciated by people who are not looking for social competition in their recreation time.

I'd had not done any trading in Domination, and only little in Ambush (as a shortcut), so the option to not participate is there. Though with the game being designed around trading, it's basically playing in hard mode and with a handicap.
