Shop Store pricing

So what is the logic behind the 96 point purchase?

I was granted 100 free points (thankful), and I wanted to buy the Six premium stash tabs which cost 200 total. No big deal, I'll go buy 100 points and be done with it.

Nope! I have to buy 200 points, because the other options are 96 and 46.

"Just buy the 96 and 46 together, it's 5 dollars cheaper"

Now I'm left with 42 points. Can buy a few 10 point things, but I'm still left with 2 points.

I understand they need to make their money, and I have -no problems- contributing to the cause, as i've thoroughly enjoyed the game experience. It's just a little off-putting in my opinion that the option to buy 100 points isn't there.

I can see where people in the same position as me will say "I can't buy 100 points? Fuck it, I won't buy anything at all"

I've equipped my flaming suit, hopefully I won't need it. Not complaining, just offering my 2 cents, since I'm technically going to be a paying customer here soon.

Yah they got me too, it wasn't until I bought the 200 points and spent 185 of them that I realized how played I was, I was only able to purchase 3 things and now I'm left with 15 points that are just sitting there, 15 points that will never be spent on anything. Thanks POE, I know you guys did some revisions to get people to buy more points, but in the end, the players know it's dirty, you know it's dirty, and everyone just feels like a filthy played out violin.
GGG incurs Fees is all.
GGG - Why you no?
Well, in their defence, it's clearly written 46 points.

At least read my post before replying
They answered this question in a F.A.Q. about microtrans. I can't think of where it is off the top of my head, but I'll look for it and throw it in here in an edit.

Be back in a jiffy ;)

edit: found it
edit2: no, i didn't

herp derp, wrong link. I'm sure Elynole lead you the right direction. He/she is pretty on point.

hopefully that answers all your questions. I personally plan on saving up 250$ to get the most bang for my buck.

I already answered this question, but to be more clear.

GGG gets charged fees for each transaction, and the little point packages incur a deeper penalty / fee. This is why its this way.

Lots dont agree. It is what it is.

Maybe it's time we notified the devs about adding this explanation to the coin purchase page so people understand why it's happening?
Would anybody like some... POUNDCAKE?
The response by Chris after GGG was called greedy for doing this:

What I do have a problem with is the number of points offered in new packs. The fact that $5 and $10 packs offer less points per dollar than closed beta and the $20 pack offers no bonus points. Then the first pack that offers a bonus at $50 gives you 16 extra points. Nothing in the shop ends in a 6. Everything is a multiple of 5 or 10. If you're spending $50, you should get a completely usable number of points.

Of course you should get a completely usable number of points. Sadly, after all this time of claiming "ethical microtransactions", they decided to do the same generic greedy BS that every other F2P game does.

Between the high prices and nonsensical coin purchasing, they are on route to lose out on profits like every other game. Its getting kind of sad that developers can't learn from others mistakes after all these years.

inb4 troglodyte fanboy suggests I think GGG shouldn't make a profit

We do this because of credit card fees. Smaller transactions have much larger fees. If people spend more in one go then we save money. This allows us to give you more points for those purchases.

If we wanted to be greedy then:
a) We would not have anchored the price at 10 points = $1 for all of Closed Beta (and the most popular $20 pack in Open Beta). Every single other company we found used weird ratios to try to make it confusing what things cost. Here we're happy to say that a 75 point effect is very close to $7.5.

b) We would offer more incentive for the higher packs. As it stands, it's just a few percent. We could have made it 20 points for each dollar for higher packs, but that'd reduce the value of points that Closed Beta members purchased for high packs.

Not to mention the whole free game with no pay-to-win, etc. I understand you're probably trolling me, but it's so frustrating to read this after doing literally everything we could to make it all fair.

I imagine it's like vendors that allow you to pay your bill online. They charge an extra 1.25, or however much, to compensate for the transaction fee they have to pay to provide the service.

I know they have to stagger the amount of coins per dollar, because if it was clear cut like... $5 for 50 points, $10 for 100, %20 for 200, the likelyhood that people buy the bigger amount is lower. People will only buy what they need, and this is the money making business. GGG needs to make people buy more so they can continue to do what they're doing.

I guess my problem is the visual recognition that everything else is staggered, and 20 dollars is 200 points, instead of something like 212.

You get a 46, 96, 516, 1065, 2850, and conveniently, 200.

I'm not saying the system is wrong, it's doing what it's designed to do. Just might be off-putting to people who get easily annoyed with money.
