While I support their choice with loot.

The consequences of that are that I flat out refuse to group. The worst aspect of any multiplayer game is always other players, and allowing other players to "steal" from one another just isn't an experience I feel like participating within.

I'm still going to play, and show off my Kiwi and cosmetics in town, probably for quiet awhile.

But I will NEVER group with random people as long as FFA loot is a part of the game, its just not worth it.

Or you should respect other peoples' right to have an opinion and fight for that, especially when said opinion is self-contained and non-preachy.

I want to say something like "I don't want to have to adapt to frivolous asshattery", but you're probably right in this. Ignoring is better than ridiculing, but cheers!
I'm glad Brian was so vocal on what he thinks at this time and as someone who does enjoy the cutthroat nature of FFA loot drop, it's hard to ignore that it at times is very disruptive to the flow of the game.
It honestly just needs an extra 2 seconds or so. That's not going to ruin the feel imo.. it will still be quick enough that if the person doesn't loot, another can pick it up and be on their way to the next mobs in quick fashion.

I do not see how adding an additional 2-5 seconds to the base timer slows down the group. They say that they tested it but I never saw this in the test environment.

Conversely, in a good group that has some basic "gentleman's rules", the current FFA-timer implementation VASTLY speeds up the pace of game play. We've tinkered around with a lot of different loot timers, and we've found that when we extend them, even by a little bit, the pace of the game drags considerably. You want to just be moving along all the time, going from pack to pack, blowing stuff up. The last thing you want to be doing is standing around every time some stuff dies, waiting for all your little bars to decay.

“waiting for all your little bars to decay.” You don’t have to wait for your bars to expire before you can loot. Did he intend to type "waiting for all your team mate’s little bars to decay.”????

More often than not, I find myself killing mobs, while some d-bag in my group is stealing my shit. Thats because they are killing trash mobs, while I'm working on the unique and rare monsters.

The question is: Should I be punished for this?

Or should I just kill trash mobs and sit back waiting for gear to drop?

Another problem: When I do click on loot with my name on it, sometimes the game doesn't register my click and in swoops some loot ninja.

Now I just leave parties in which this happens and either find another, or go solo.

The biggest problem I see is that loot is supposed to be better the more people you play with, but if you're not getting the loot for the reasons I stated above, why should I even play with others?

I adopted a new policy if I get in a group of loot ninjas: Run far ahead, kill mobs as fast as possible, and wait for the timers to expire and steal their shit. I recommend anyone whose character is strong enough to do the same if they're getting their shit ganked.

I like the FFA style, but I don't like being punished for trying to kill rare monsters and clicking on items, but the click not registering.

Maybe an extended timer for someone fighting a unique mob or in the middle of a pack of mobs, and better hit detection on loot?

TL;DR: Don't punish us for fighting mobs while other people just sit on the outskirts and poach. Add extra time for people engaged in battle, or make the detection for clicking on loot better.
Thanks GGG for sticking with your philosophy.
Please don't let us - hardcore gamers - down. This is why we supported you. We understand why FFA loot is crucial in this kind of game, and so do you.
