Brian's Feedback to Looting (quote from reddit)

Your idea that PvE can't have competitive elements is objectively wrong, and the idea that PvE shouldn't have such elements is an attitude much better suited for other, different games. It's a concept that doesn't apply here at all, and may be the reason you're having such a hard time understanding the most basic fundamentals of the game.

The developers have consistently stated they want the atmosphere of their game to be cutthroat, which I would say they've succeeded in doing. A great number of people, many of which come from Diablo 2, have supported this game because of that atmosphere, and similarly exceptional decisions made by the developers.

Taking that into account, it's safe to say that whatever changes GGG makes to the loot distribution, it will always be FFA. You may not like that, and you don't have to. No game can cater to everyone, nor should it try to. This is why different games exist, so that everyone can find something they enjoy.

While making suggestions for improving the game is perfectly acceptable, demanding that the core philosophy of the game be changed solely for the sake of your personal whim comes off as a bit selfish and arrogant. I don't believe the immature manner you've chosen to conduct yourself in helps that perception, either.

There are many ARPGs and MMORPGs which lack the feature of FFA loot, and while those games don't interest me personally, it seems the sort of affair that you would be better suited for.

But currently there is ABSOLUTELY nothing competitive in here. What we have is, you either have to stop fighting and go grab your timed gear, while everyone else does the same, not only to their timed gear but everyone's elses as well. Which actually turns out as an instanced loot (since everyone grabs HIS gear) but with the added "feature" of loot camping instead of fighting mobs. It's not FFA, its not atmospheric, its not fast. It's a fucking burden.

And as I said in another thread, I don't like instanced either. That doesn't make FFA any better though. I am waiting for cutthroat league to go play there, cause here we have a non consequence based driven game which only promotes one way griefers that think they are hardcore while being protected by game mechanics. It's exactly like throwing rocks to a caged lion and feeling hardcore. There is nothing competitive NOR hardcore in abandoning your party to camp their timed gear while you are supposed to fight mobs. If everyone does the same it automatically becomes instanced loot.

We have a bastardized system right now that promotes the ninja mentality and griefing in a protective bubble. And it sucks major

Dear Brian, as far as I can tell from chatting online, very few people are using your loot rules anyway. They are either playing exclusively with their friends who share everything anyway, or they are making gentleman's agreements and devising their own rules. Why keep your rules if very few using them? As a consequence of the current system I think you have killed off public multiplayer in the game. Many many people would rather play solo than group with strangers who may give into temptation regardless of any agreement made in advance. This is a great shame for the game as a whole.

I do not think anyone wants the FFA loot to be removed. People would simply like to have the option to turn it off when they feel like it. It's all about options.

There is no "tough choice" in having all your loot hoovered by someone using Leap when you are not using Leap. No choice. Nothing you can do about it.

Leap is what screws me over 100% of the time. When the party is full I mis 90% of the loot with my name on it. My build uses leapslam to tank. Leapslam takes 1 second to cast and the game is slow to respond so my character always spams 1 extra leapslam. By tanking for the group and making the game easier for the rest of the group I am punished and miss 90% of my loot. I guess I could use cleave or something but basically anyone who uses leapslam misses out on their loot with a 1 second timer.

Does GGG really want my tank to stop tanking and stumble through loot mid combat? That seems pretty counter intuitive to teamwork and most games have evolved beyond "He who clicks the fastest or uses programs to pick up loot."

The way the system is right now it promotes people using minions and other spells to clogg the loot area. It is very teamwork killing. I am a new player and have only met a handfull of people worth playing with. I would team with them exclusively if this was a magical world where I always had "friends" to party with. I havent been building that list for months.

I think the path of least resistance will be to let the game maker chose "FFA" or "Personal".
Then to appease the FFA "hardcore" players you can give FFA even more increased loot and exp rewards than Personal.

So sick of this mentality...if an item drops you have the same chance of grabbing it as everyone else in the party. No one is "ninjaing" or "screwing" you if you suck at clicking on an item that is held for you for a period of time based on your distance from the item. Pay attention and be ready to grab that precious item when it drops. Stop being derps and expecting free loot.

Todays gamers are so entitled its disgusting.

So if I am ranged and you are melee and the boss dies and you are closer to the loot, how is that having the same chance? Even with a timer some classes have an advantage to get to the loot before someone else...that is not a fair playing field.

More and more I read this, the more I realize that people pro-FFA know they have an advantage over others then loot, which is why they do not want to see FFA loot. Cause they have to rely on the random drops and trading over how much faster they can get there over someone else.

You run to the god damn item and click on it before the timer expires. It is based on DISTANCE and I have had ZERO issues getting loot as a ranged player. Im also a good gamer and dont stand around derping in the back like most noobs hoping and praying I get some loot. I TAKE my loot, not wait for it to be given to me or hoping I get LUCKY. The more I read from all you anti-FFA players the more I believe you guys just SUCK at playing video games..
The item is yours when it is in your bag.
So So easy fix.. let party leader have option ... both type of players happy

look at facts

1: for the number of player online = very few partys !
2: biggest thread about No FFA loot had thousands of replys saying No to FFA...about 5% of replys were same few people saying keep it FFA
3: lots of people say thay Do NOT Party because of this
4:remember only very small % read/post to forums lots of players try then leave before reading stuff!

LOOK we want Path of Exlie too carry on for lots of years with money coming in !!

So Do Not force FFA or no FFA on all let party leader have choice ;-)

Way to throw the baby out with the bathwater via "cutthroat/hardcore". Your post is extremely condescending while hiding behind good behavior. Way to passive aggressive bro.
It would be nice if GGG posted this opinion on the forums. I can't seem to find it here (perhaps I'm mistaken). If you have your own forums you should use them instead of 3rd party sites. Also please don't cave GGG. Plleeeeasseee

You keep using horrid analogies. The worst part about using a shit analogy is when you keep using the same one.

1) Play with people you know.

2) Play with a group, and if anyone objects to established rules, REMOVE THEM.

3) Play solo you can have all the fucking loot you want.

4) Play Shitablo 3.

5) Move back to Console gaming where you belong.

Those are 5 options you have. I've yet to encounter these "assholes" that take gear from me. Not -ONCE- has someone seen my name on an item, I couldn't get to it in time, and it was taken before I could get it.

What items are you guys getting taken from you? Those awesome 1 blue socket strength helms? That awesome rare that you don't even need for your class?

I'd be mad too if my level 18 Duelist lost a piece of Templar gear, too. /sarcasm

There will always be a better drop. Be faster next time, noob. Don't sit around and appreciate the scenery like a fucking potato.

Leapslams animation is a second long about. I tank using leapslam. Loot drops with my name on it and by the time leapslam is finished tons of vultures crowd the item and pick it up. I have a 0.5 to 0.1 second reaction time. I miss out on 90% of my loot because im leapslam tanking for the party. Why am I doing this????? I guess Ill just keep soloing the damn game wishing I could get some of those fat party exp and loots like all the other ninjas that just kick back with their 5 second timers from range. Them running all about during combat focusing on loot while little ol' me trucks on tanking for the party and getting jack shit the rare times I do party.
