Is anyone actually using Vaal Gems?

I love me some Vaal gems. Every one of my alts in Ambush has one. I particularly like the Vaal Summon Skeletons gem on my summoner.
Admittedly I'm nowhere near end-game on any of my chars so maybe Merciless or Maps will change my opinion. I use Vaal Power Siphon and it is VERY good when playing solo or duo. I run it in a 4L on my elemental wander:
VPS-WED-Crit Damage-Chain This almost always crit-freezes the screen if it does not outright kill the enemies due to the lightning freeze effect from Three Dragons. It did not work with chain with the initial release, but they fixed it and it is much better than other supports I've tried. If you kill two or three packs, you've got enough souls to do it again. Sometimes it fills itself up. I have noticed that its impact levels off the more players you add; the level of enemy life and the amount of the souls you are getting directly affects the usefulness. However, culling with Power Siphon/Vaal Power Siphon in a small group or solo is very, very powerful. Doomed for Life

if you play with bow and dont use 2 slots for vaal rain of arrows and increase duration,you just...
Whoever says vaal roa isnt the most op vaal skill,dont know what they smoke.10 sec pindown on spot,and charging faster than any other vaal gem. TOTALY not op /sarcasm Bye bye desync!

" Yeah, it turns great shock and a small burn into great freeze with decent shock. There is a ton of competition for hats between Alpha's Howl, Crown of Eyes, and the like, but I was trying this as a budget/leveling option and I think I just might keep it. It's only getting better as I level. I can't wait to see how it looks with lvl 27 Wrath and a 6L Power Siphon. Doomed for Life

Cooldowns instead of souls maybe? Available when entering instance. Teleporting to town would not refresh it though.
