As for you people who are somehow comparing how people are in a game to real life, please seek mental help

Personally and this is just me and my life outlook - either i have honesty and integrity 100% of the time or i don't. It's my choice and how i choose to live my life - in a video game or out in the "real" world. I don't change just because it is a "video game" and i choose to be me 100% of time time.

You made this thread, you knew people were going to call you on it when you typed it. Suck it up and take the hits until a mod comes and saves you by locking the thread.

Let me ask you something. If a rich person came to your house and offered you $200,000 for your beat up Honda civic , would you take it? Or would you say "oh no sir, I'm sorry but the book value on this car is only $6,000 . I couldn't possibly take more."

You guys kill me.

I think this post makes it clear the entire point of this thread was to brag about how noobs are giving you their wallets out of ignorance.

We get it, you are cool man. You can now move on.

For the record, in your example that person it coming to you unsolicited to make an offer on your car. No chance that is happening in game. Far more likely you are posting in trade, then telling noob to make you an offer then claiming it's their fault. If you say, this is what I want, and they offer you more, it's all good. HUGE difference.

There is nothing wrong with asking for more than it's worth to maximize profits, but once you get the sense the person is a rube, you have SOME obligation to stop the bleeding or you are flat out stealing.

This isn't a very good analogy. ;) It's safe to assume in real life we all have some idea of a car's value, give or take. But ingame most newbies, myself included actually, don't know very much at all about various worth of items. Your analogy would work (though it would seem a little odd of course) if the person offering that amount of money had never seen a car in their entire life before, and had little idea about what they were. Maybe you implied this, but you neglected to delcare it. :)

Are you saying then if someone offered that kind of money for your car when you knew the value was much lower, you wouldn't first say "Are you sure you want to pay that much for this?" If they replied "Yes I'm fully aware, and I really want yours that badly," then fine. Wouldn't you first enquire to why they want to spend that much money? ;o

I'm done here too many people think I post for the famez. I posted here to prove a point and I did.

I proved my point in which I said that these people that take advantage of people in a game are more susceptible to be rapists, pedophiles and bank robbers.

Noobs need to learn, and if they're going to offer me a shitload of stuff to me for me to profit I will.

Does that make me a bad person ingame? Yeah, okay it does but I don't care, it's a game I play it for fun

But all of you say this translates into me being a bad person in real life is seriously a joke.

What is funny is that you say "Does that make me a bad person ingame"? "Yeah..."

"...okay it does".

Then are surprised that people call you out on it. HILARIOUS!

If you think that "it's a game I play it for fun".

That translates to..."My game is to be a jerk to others", if you come here to boast about it on top of it.

Again DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF PEOPLE CALL YOU ON IT.

What were you expecting? A round of "High Fives"..?

Sorry to break it to you. But if it quacks like a duck, then it is a duck.

Don't like it? Then don't come here advertising what a jerk you are. if you don't want to be called a jerk.

I am still not sure how you "mental midgets" equate being a jerk to others in game game is cool in the first place. Game or not, it all still speaks about your character. One day when you mind matures (we all do hope it does), you will come to realize that game or not there is no real difference. Act like a jerk, you will be branded a jerk.
I don't find anything wrong with ripping off new players, or players in general tbh. Though, this may be because I played EVE online way too much.

Example:

New player finds an Divine Orb on the beach. Sees a nice low level unique 5 levels later that he'd like to get and try. SURE! says the more experienced player, I'll trade this Redbeak to you for a Divine Orb!

What just happened here?

A new player had a generally useless item(to them) in their possession, A Divine Orb, that they probably wouldn't go about using for A LONG TIME. By the time they got their build together that they wanted, fought their way through end-game, and began rolling on perfect mod rolls they would of long forgot about this trade.

The more experienced player had multiple redbeaks, and the currency the new player had would suit better in the more experienced players hand.

Both parties traded something that had no use for at the time, for something that they now could both find enjoyment out of using.

Last patch wipe during CB, I had come to the conclusion that I REALLY wanted to try a Quill Rain + Explosive Arrow build. The servers had just been wiped and everyone was leveling up again. Lucky for me I had found an Exalted Orb almost right off the bat, due to it being CB and my extreme want to use Quill Rain - I ended up trading the Exalted Orb for the unique.

I'm sure the person trading me the Quill Rain was loving every minute of it and probably thought I was an idiot, but I didn't care because the enjoyment I got out of that item was worth far more than the enjoyment I would of obtained with the Exalted Orb itself.

Keep it civil people. We don't know the people who were trading with him. Maybe they wanted the skill or gear so bad offered what they had or didn't care one bit to give away the stuff. Now 4 GCP's you deserve to fell guilty over that but you do and you can carry that guilt while you look at them, that was your choice. It's not wrong or right - it's over and done with, money in the bank and at this point - maybe you taught them a lesson about trading for to high a price and maybe they don't really care because they have the skill they wanted. I've wanted certain things quick and right then a few times and didn't matter if i overpaid, that's the price sometimes.

Basically what Elynole said is what i was trying to say in the other half of the statement that got quoted, except for the out and out scamming new player because if they think it is worth what they are paying for whatever it is they are buying, then it isn't a scam.

This is another good point. "Fair" trades are subjective and highly relative to each player. If I needed something very badly, I'd gladly overpay to the point I'd be ripping myself off.

But they do it to themselves. I'm honestly not a greedy person, but when someone offers you 4 GCP and a chaos for a 0% quality lightning strike, what am I suppose to do? I had another newbie give me a 5L for a chaos which I flipped in 1 hour for an exalted. Help me PoE community. Help me help them.

Being nice and honest is it's own reward. How you act is how people will perceive you. If you are knowingly ripping people off and admitting it to us, how do you honestly expect me to perceive you as anything other than what your actions paint you to be.

If you rip people off in a game, I have no doubt you either do it in real life, OR you would do it in real life if you weren't so afraid of the consequences...

Please could someone be kind enough to tell me what these all mean? :)

GCP, redbeak, "a chaos", divine orb (I have some orbs, but I don't think I've seen that one)
Yes, but the point is you "know" what the value is and are willing to trade it for something of possibly "lower value." The issue here is that new ppl, who don't know values at all, are being shat on by the more experienced ppl - who DO know better.

My, my I REALLY hope this community doesn't degrade down to the level of the WoW peeps... Because some of you are starting to act like it and put a really putrid taste in this community's mouth...

Personally, I know some stuff if worth more than others and don't really care one way or the other. If I need something, I'll make an offer, if they take it, ok, and if not, then I can wait - world won't come to an end :)

Stop shitting on the new players. Just because you were beta testers doesn't give you the right to be assholes - unless you're assholes to begin with then that's a different story...
