I think what "scares" me is the realization that I keep repeating the same mistake with online games, especially those with MTX: In the beginning, when they are new, there is only excitement and I willingly separate with my cash (but more importantly, with my time). Instead of stopping while it's fun, I keep playing until I'm utterly disenchanted and resentful, and then regret it all. I experienced this before, more than once, but I don't seem to learn how to stop while I'm enjoying myself.
I said this elsewhere, but playing PoE is sort of like dating a hot babe, and when you finally get to bed her, she turns out to be a hermaphrodite with a monster cock. If you had stopped before you took her home, you'd only have pleasant memories.

As is evident by the number of players with level 90+ characters. ;)

No you wouldn't. You would regret that you didn't beat the breaks off that one hot babe.
Your never going to stop while your enjoying yourself. That's part of the human condition.
No one has ever been right in the middle of receiving a blow job and been like "you know what, this is wonderful and all but you can stop now"
Edit - Unless she had like full on crazy braces, that did happen once. But other than that no.

I understand this simile, intuitively, not from experience.
Bachelors logos - enjoy the game, don't marry it.

Scares me that if I really start playing that I might get too addicted to doing so.

Im scared that this game will become a trading simulator where you farm 24/7 to get some exalts then buy low sell high by spamming trade chat to get more currency to finally afford anything. Meanwhile the gameplay stays stagnant or worse, deteriorate due to "balance" and farming becomes a chore to get more money to play the OP "fun" builds.

*unzips* could you elaborate?
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
