How can GGG support PoE in the long run ?

GGG are intending to support the game for years to come, but how can this be given the game is free to play for everyone ?

They raised a few millions by providing stuff for donators, but when the game is released
for everyone, desire to donate will decrease drastically as people have a full game to play for free.

When the game is officially released (assuming it'll receive great reviews which can be expected) the number of players will increase drastically (there are ~60.000 players right now)
which means way more servers will have to be bought and maintained. (How big the user base is going to be can barely be estimated IMO. It's hard to tell how many people PoE can draw over from WoW, D3, COD etc.)

GGG was founded in 2006 and PoE is their first game. I can't imagine PoE surviving in the long run with nothing but donations from grateful RPG-fans.

Anyone willing to give a bit of insight into this issue ?

Thanks and have a nice day.
Top right of webpage, Shop. All skins, animations, pets will be sold there. And tabs.
If GGG chickens made an action RPG, what would it be called? Path of Eggxile, a Peck 'n' Slash RPG.
Why was the helmet spluttering? It was a coif.
It seems like you are questioning the whole concept of Free2Play games there...

this
Problem is, most Free-to-Play games either sell power, sell something that expires, or both. GGG does neither.

I know I will continue to support GGG as long as I am playing the game. I'm sure quite a few players feel this way, and many more will come.

The shop will have more items down the line, and I know I heard somewhere (can't quote the source) that there will be a cash shop for physical items, too.

All the things I want to remember are in the places I'd like to forget.
Answer is pretty simple. Refer to League of Legends business model. GGG is planing the same.
I have runes, potions and total disregard of public safety.

League of Legends sell boosts and heroes which give mechanical advantages. Those are counter to GGG's promise for no Pay2Win.

Their philosophy is(as far as I can tell) to make a great game for free to get as many people to play as possible and continually add new cosmetic effects to the microtransaction shop for revenue.

Sure, it could fail but it could also be the greatest thing ever! I hope for the latter.

This. League of Legends is extremely, extremely successful (at least I am pretty sure they are lol!) The business model is proven. Its silly that you aren't aware of this.
