Self-found league: no shared stash!

Solo races is all you will get. There will not be a permanent or long-term self-found ladder, because it would split the community unnecessarily, since self-found is entirely playable in the existing leagues. Thread over.

But its not? In order to play self-found, I have to also ignore every social aspect of the game, forget the ladder (which is important in hardcore), delete all my friends because they are not playing self-found so I can "pretend" like I'm playing on the same level as them, and also pretend like this league is balanced around not trading and has exclusive benefits towards self found.... MEANWHILE all of this hardcore league has, even though you can play hardcore aka delete your character and just pretend you are playing in it, without splintering the community from standard!

Imagine if self-found league existed and hardcore did not. I bet the same amount of people would play it too. You would be out there begging for a hardcore league, and people would be telling you to STFU because you can play "hardcore" and just delete your character after it dies, its entirely playable on existing leagues and splits the community unnecessarily, solo races is all you get. Thread over, lmao.

Self found league is dead.

It would splinter the community.

And by splinter...

everyone will play it, which will leave GGG staff playing cut throat market flippers in a ghost town.

If everyone will play it, there is a problem with the current system.

I can think of two ARPG games that are self found games. One made by the diablo creator, the other is going SF come their expansion.

Diablo III vanilla and Path of Exile asides, almost all a-rpg are self-found. And nobody claim the crazy high drop rate of Torchlight II, alias Piñata: The Video Game, in a Path of Exile self-found league and I would argue for a such league until Grim Dawn release.
Sorry for the English mistakes if there any in my post, this is not my native language.

no? hardcore has a different and more self-regulating economy. a self-found league would not have an economy at all, and therefore would not make any difference. most people who play self-found also play solo only. if you want to party up with other people who are playing self-found, make a fuckin guild for it or something. that's all you need

You don't need a different economy to play hardcore, you just like it more because its more balanced compared to the shitty softcore economy. You don't "need" it, just like you don't "need" nemesis mods, but you desire them. Same way I guess self-found league wouldn't totally need a tweaked orb droprate and quest rewards to function, but they would certainly help.

About the pvp-thing: in a true self-found (character based), nobody will ever play a pure RF build because the chance that the phoenix drops on that exact character is too small. If self-found was player-based ofcourse once the shield drops on playing another character you can make a new one with RF in mind. Again an argument for private character stash against shared stash. PvP will be free of power-builds in this league!

About the races: yes there we can start from scratch but a race is not comparable to a full league unlimited in time.

About Diablo 3, RoS: everything will be BoA. I know many people don't like this but they are not forced to make self-found characters in PoE with the different leagues and I think a lot of people who play these kind of games like the concept of running around with what you find. Seeing what a major gameplay change this evokes, a seperated league is justified. If others keep telling us to play that way now in standard or to create our own guild, then by that logic cancel hardcore too and tell them to delete their character after dying.

A self-found character-based league would be a league where you cannot power level, you cannot stash all your equipment for a new build, you have to do it with what drops, point. That is a very fun challenge and if you don't want to risk having to vendor a found 6-link Mrohi Erqui because you found it with your spellcaster, then don't play self-found, just like you don't play hardcore if you want to stay in the same league when you die once.

Then lastly, the fragmenting community: we can do without a league like Domination. Just transfer Nemesis characters to standard. Replace Domination by permanent character-based self-found.
Another thing I forgot to add: class choice is superimportant in character-based self-found as you'll be limited to the gems rewards of that class.

E.g.: if you want to play a sparker shadow you can never be sure that spark gem will drop, so you might reconsider going witch or templar with spark. In a player-based self-found it's easy to quickly get the spark with the witch and give it to the shadow, but that's lame.

I find it interesting that the class matters a lot on what skills you'll be able to use... .
