What a purely antagonistic thread. By definition, pay-to-win is when the developers/publishers themselves offer in-game advantages/items/powers for real cash, thus the 'pay to win' is purely between the user and the service provider. Pay-to-win MUST be sanctioned and provided by the game makers themselves. If financial transactions for power are explicitly against the rules, then this denial of pay-to-win is even stronger.

Third party sites have nothing to do with pay to win by the standard definition, else any game that has trading online is 'pay to win' because SOMEONE will find an *illegal* way to monetise it.

IF a game is dominated by non-official RMT, as you put it, then it's still not pay to win. It might be broken, and absolutely not worth playing, but it's not pay to win.

That's an interesting question. I would have to say it depends on how beneficial it is to a player to spend a reasonable amount of money rmt vs the reward the player gets from a reasonable amount of time played. If, for example, it's really the only reasonable way to get the items necessary to do the hardest, highest level content then I'd say yes there is too much influence from the game to rmt and therefore is more pay to win vs play to win.

One could easily argue poe is a bit too punishing in various ways so that the risk vs reward of playing to getting caught RMTing leans a bit too far towards rmt.

Again, I think that's a good and valid question, interesting to think about.

Pretty much every MMO I've played has RMT. some more than others, but here I rarely see any RMT messages being spammed.
