Bino's Kitchen Knife and Death's Oath
i'm planning to make a frenzy build that uses this uniques, and i got some questions regarding this uniques.
1. Is the chaos damage of death's oath considered 'poison'? 2. Does death oath's chaos damage scales with Bino's '30% Increase Damage overtime' and some damage overtime nodes in the passive tree? |

1. No, poison can be damage type and a status effect. 'Poison' mentioned on bino is a status effect that does 10% of damage done in the source attack as chaos damage over 2 seconds. Some other skills, like poison arrow or viper strike also do chaos over time, or 'poison damage' but do not cause a poison status.
See, fire damage over time is more clear in that regard. " 2. No, the source of death oath's damage is the item itself, not you, so nothing on you affects it. If you have Bino, I recommend a crit-based puncture splash build over death's oath. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" HOW ON EARTH ARE PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THIS!? |

" Beats me, they're probably meant to ask around and run into someone that has the info. The wiki should be a bit more clear on that now, although the confusion stems mostly from same name being used for both things, and nothing could really be done about it as poison status and poison arrow cloud were the same effect ingame but with a different magnitude, fixed recently. " Funny thing is that I want to make a crit-based puncture build with Bino, but sadly, I cannot bring out its full potential without since it is so expensive. Wish I had a lot more exalts, but I only got 14 exalts. Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

" Where exactly is chaos damage over time referred to as poison damage? As far as I know this is incorrect. Last edited by Ellie_GGG#0000 on Jan 3, 2014, 11:35:44 PM

" "As far as I know" hmm, I'm going to try to put this in a way that won't require you to delete my comment again. Though the odds are against me, I'll still try. I find it unsettling that the makers of the game are asking the players questions about mechanics. And making statements like "as far as I know". Legit enough post? Or just going to get me banned. Time will tell. |

" I was not asking a question about mechanics. I was asking whether or not there are instances in game where chaos damage over time is referred to as poison damage, because that would be inconsistent and confusing terminology and should be changed. | |
" On all skills that do chaos over time. Chaos over time that doesn't seem to have anything to do with poison is mostly found on uniques (DO or desecrated ground). Most of playerbase refers to it as 'poison' due to not seeing it in any other form, hell, I've even seen chaos damage in chunks being called poison, or 'poison elemental'. Yes, it's never stated so but it's really heavily implied, the whole 'poison' concept is a huge mess and this is the best I could come up with as far as consistency is concerned. I know the closest thing to 'chaos' would be 'negative energy' damage type from D&D, but chaos has been so closely blended with poison you don't know where's the end of one and start of the other. It would be very nice if you could do something about it. Something like making poison a stat debuff and chaos damage skills themed differently. 'Poison' is rare enough to be able to do what shock does now, just one stack that gives, say, 40% inc damage taken. Viper and poison arrow could be remodeled into entropy arrow, rift strike or something and do chaos over time. What to do with shock? It could maybe lock down skills so only normal attack can be used, with a much longer duration than freeze, it was a gimmick in hellgate but here it would be pretty worthwhile. Beats me how dizzyness and muscle cramps could make you take more damage anyway.
