Lunaris temple a bit overkill on the blood? (spoiler)

Well, the amount never really bothered me - it's a bit much, yeah, now that I come to think about it.
It's not only blood, anyways, because that would congeal. It's probably blood with an isotonic sodium citrate solution, which keeps it from congealing.
Really, for some people you have to spell out everything :P.

as a witch she says something along the lines of "I've always been a fan of your work, it's you I had a problem with".

You just went through pools filled to the brim with the blood, literally thousands of corpses on carts, so many that they block the path for you to progress, twisted abominations of former human beings and the character I am playing says she admires all of what she's just seen? Really? I'm all for dark grey moralities, but that's over the line even by my standards. How is someone supposed to root for her after that? I ended up playing my ranger instead afterwards.

Yeah, I was fine with the whole 'taking children' thing. But admiration? That crossed the line.
Casually casual.

I think it's entirely possible that it was originally water and so much blood has poured into it that it looks like blood, but it's still just a mix of blood and water. Also I think the area is meant to be a bit over-the-top, as a realization of how much of a monster piety is and how disturbing the actions of the ebony legion are. And yes, it's a ton of bodies, but we don't know how many people have been exiled or how long they've been exiling people, or even if all the corpses are just exiles - who knows what the ebony legion has been doing.

Also I don't get why people put '(spoiler)' after the thread title rather than before it.

I'm pretty sure the witch was referring to piety creating human abominations specifically, rather than her killing countless people. The witch probably isn't the type to just randomly kill innocent people (she said she wouldn't have killed children if their parents hadn't burned her home), but even as early as brutus, she mentions interest in such things ("if you were MY creation, brutus, you wouldn't have fallen so easily").

I always thought it was a magical place, the pools of blood have been there for centuries, a place of sacrifice and torture with piety just being one of the agents of dominus. Something like blood, ooze from dissolved corpses kept warm and moving, making lunaris an almost living abomination with circulating blood and level 3 being its guts.
I've been meaning to post about how much like this area. I'm pretty inured to blood and gore but the amount of it in this area, plus the piles of drained bodies, always gets to me. I'm especially intrigued by the wagons full of bodies, because they give you a glimpse into what was involved in getting all those bodies down there. I find that part of it more disturbing than anything else and I'd like to see more of it in the area design, and a little less of the gilded blood fountain stuff.

I usually play PoE with the in-game music/ambiance turned off and music or a podcast playing in the background, but I always playing Lunaris level 3 with the in-game sound. The constant screaming creates a sense of anxiety that's rare in games. I feel a sense of relief every time I portal out, and trepidation when I have to go back down.

I actually thought the lakes of blood were one of the coolest things in the final area ... especially the fountains of blood! And the stacks of dead bodies.

And the titty-bitches o_O

Great job GGG, don't change a thing.

Well it is supposed to be dark and gritty so..

But it's not gritty. It goes too far and just becomes ridiculous. A pool of bloody corpses? Sure. A cart full of fresh dead bodies? Sure. A menagerie of assorted monstrosities (those keep, they don't need maintenance)? Sure. But a gigantic ocean of fresh blood, literally thousands of fresh corpses... Look, given the human population of Wraeclast we've seen, Piety could kill pretty much every single person in Wraeclast at once and still not end up with that many corpses. It's a little bit ridiculous. And as Dodiobugtron said, yeah, sure, suspending disbelief for badass magic? Sure. But a gigantic ocean of unexplained blood that surely reaches a few city blocks with no explicit statement, "this is magic"? All those corpses that are somehow not rotting and decaying? Doesn't make sense.

Lunaris 2 succeeds beautifully in being dark and gritty. The dark, claustrophobic atmosphere, the occasional pool of blood scattered around, the solid handful of corpses strung up in brutal ways... That's believable. That's dark. That's gritty as all hell. Lunaris 3... Isn't. It's just so over-the-top so as to become implausible.

I completely agree with this. The sheer amount of blood and bodies just completely ruins my suspension of disbelief. Not to mention the enormous plothole in where Peity even gets that many people and how they got in there.

Blood doesn't form rivers! It clots when exposed to air! It would at best be a sticky sludge, having running rivers of blood is just absurd. Why are the bodies not rotting and coming back to life? Everything else turns into a zombie but Lunaris is a zombie free-zone?

Lunaris 3 is like a parody, it is so over the top it stops becoming grim and tragic, and just becomes comical. Oh just another pile of mysteriously well preserved corpses...
And don't tell me those handful of experimenters and piety were alone in being responsible for organising the thousands of people down there...

And the ones on spikes and such are never really explained either... The tables and whatnot are obviously experimental but why are there dismembered corpses just hanging randomly around the place? What purpose are they supposed to serve?

Less is more when it comes to gore really, it is the contrast that makes it shocking or scary, if it is just everywhere and constant it stops becoming nightmarish and instead is just the new normality.
Two things cant be too much: blood and naked woman. ..in video games ofc.

Agreed on first and second points. The naked statues are 'ok', I guess.
