Staff Templar Build?
Hey again, sorry to kind of be spamming the thread, but I wanted some feedback on this new tree I just made.
My plan is to go energy shield and armour, use anger and determination or vitality for auras, sweep, molten shell, and maybe infernal blow. I'm hoping to be fairly tanky. Do this look viable/is there anything major I'm missing? Also, are totems worth looking into or can I ignore those? Thanks! |

Also, does blood magic seem like a good idea?

I was thinking of running blood magic later in the game, but I'm not entirely too sure. I'm only like 21 on my Templar. We'll see.

I was making a frost casting templar but he's ended up staff. I'm at lvl 23 so far. I wasn't offered freezing pulse as a quest reward it's my first toon post-wipe so I don't have a stash of common skill gems. Glacial hammer/frost nova wasn't working very well and I'm not a fan of ground slam. I started filling in my AoE with sweep and it's very smooth. Molten shields up, frost nova to slow stuff down, finish off with sweep or glacial hammer.
Blood magic is supposed to be good. I've gotten Soul Siphon instead and it's great at the moment. This is the build I'm considering at 82 points. Last edited by MorriganGrey#3463 on Jan 27, 2013, 1:46:31 AM

" I believe you have overlooked mana. I don't see any regen to speak of and you haven't taken Blood Magic or Soul Siphon. "Fairly tanky" in PoE requires a lot of resist as well as the health you're stacking. It's nice to take some of the really good passives like Celestial Walker so you don't have to stack as much resist on your gear. |

Ok, thanks for the feedback! I'll try picking up some more resists.

Hey guys,
Not sure how much this matters to you but I am in the process of running a fire/staff templar here is the forum where I posted my build http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/68930 I ran it hardcore and had no trouble surviving to lvl 25 just died cuz I was not paying attention to the screen (tired) lol. Just take a look for ideas I guess. I wanted to contribute to the staff templar community because I really enjoy the play |

My Templar is level 37 right now.
I'm playing with a elemental-sweep build. Basicly I'm stacking elemental damage and one-shot the normal critters with Sweep, using Heavy Strike for everything else. I started this as a caster originally, but quickly fell in love with sweeps aoe-pwnage. Build: Gear:
Spoiler
Elemental resist mobs where not really a problem until now because this utilises all the elements, as well as pretty high physical damage. Right now my Heavy Strike tops of at about 900dps, while Sweep has 420dps. The Mana costs are pretty steep (~40 per sweep, with only 230 effective Mana), but with 2 mana pots I am able to pretty much easily clear anthing solo up until now (Cruel Medicine chest quest). I plan on getting more health for now, hence the Marauder tree invasion, and will switch to using Blood-Magic once I get a Life Leech gem and a piece of 5 link gear (getting this will be fun xD""). Afterwards I will head over towards the Witch tree to pick up both Inner Force and Blast Radius. I should be in the high 50's by that time. For Auras right now I'm only using Hatred, to get some Ice damage into the mix, but will be switch to Anger and Wrath once I get Blood magic. Dunno yet about defensive auras, I'll see about them once I actually start getting killed. For gear, I dont think I'll be switching out much in the near future :/. I got absurdly lucky with both my staff and the topaz ring, but I think the build should be very much viable without those two. Just stack life and use the highest damage staff you can find, the weapon elemental damage gems/passives and Hatred Aura will handle the rest of your dps. Characters name is MeatshieldMcTakesdamage, feel free to add me if you want to see the build in action^^ Cheers~ IGN: PunchyMcSplosion Last edited by theskurai3476#4625 on Jan 27, 2013, 1:24:55 PM

" I must state that I am pretty impressed by this post. One of the most informative posts about 2-hander Templars. I am also an attempted 2-Hander Templar myself. I will try to question some of the choices you have made on your passive skill tree, if I may. I see that you have taken Precision and Resolute Technique at the same time. Doesn't Resolute Technique render Precision ineffective? I was thinking of the possibility that you may have taken Precision for the purpose of using different kinds of weapons (2H indeed), if they come across your way. If not, I would like an answer to my question. : ) Second question is: don't you run short of mana quite often on your runs? I am a 40-level 2-Hander Templar myself (Not as lucky as you are in terms of Staff or Mace quality, that is quite a drop, if you ask me :). However, I have 19% Mana Regen on one of my rings and Clarity all the time, which reduces me to 105 mana. Third one: how much life and energy shield and all resistances do you have right now? You stack up on Life Regen or Life Leech or Life on Hit or all of the above? "How do you stay alive?" is fundamentally my question. |

" One at a time then: 1. The precision passives will be resetted with time. I just need them for the dex right now. I took those way before switching to resolute technique and still need them to equip some of my gear. 2. The Staff is beastly yeah :p. I dont really have mana problems at the moment. I have about 230 max mana, with Hatred active, wich is my only aura right now, that leaves me at about 180 mana for active use. Thats... 4-5 sweeps worth of mana, enough to kill everything I have encountered yet. Heavy Strike only needs 14 Mana at the moment, so it has more or less replaced my auto attack xD. If a fight really happens to be more than a couple of Sweeps I still have 3 mana pots. 3. Right now I have... cant get on the servers too look xD".... about 1.1 - 1.2k health and roughly 60 energy shield. That was enough not to get bursted down till now. I also use a life gain per enemy hit rune with my sweep, healing me for 20hp per enemy hit. I actually have more survivability if I'm litterally swarmed by stuff. My Resistances are just about capped, 70fire, 75 cold, 69 lightning. The only thing killing me will probably be Chaos damage :/. I'll have to see about getting some resistance against that. If it gets close I can always just Leep Slam out of danger, and I also have these: The instant life recovery is a nice panick button + I also have both Molten Shell and Warlords Mark for really big groups of mobs. I'm quite happy with my damage right now, so I will be grabbing life nodes wherever I can find them. After getting the life nodes in the Marauder starting area I will head down towards Blood Magic, grabbing Blood Drinker and the two 12% life nodes on the way. Afterwards I'll take a little detour and get the Golems Blood Cluster a bit to the right, setting me to...5.2% of my life regenerated every second. Ironicly, my worst stat is armor (only 29% damage reduction) and replacing the chest I have right now will be annoying :/ If everything works as planned this here would be my final build: Getting a higher level then this is kinda unrealistic, but since you have your characters forever now I would after that try to grab the second Body and Soul cluster on the top left.
