Entirely instanced game = not MMO.

Actually it is...

You do know you have to be online, on the game's servers, with millions of other people to play it, right?

FYI don't just read a thread's title and reply to it based on that, it's annoying...

wait what, millions?^^ since when does poe have millions of players? they have like 30k players via steam, maybe less. fairly sure the ratio of players between their own launcher and steam isn´t that skewed

Translation: PoE has approximately 1.66 million active players.

I know how you feel :P

But really despite what anyone says it's not really and mmo in the traditional sense.

An mmo is an open world game where everyone in that server interacts in every area of the game.

This is at best a hybrid, the game is instanced...the most you can actualy play with is 6 and the only thing that has more people is essentially a glorified hub for match making.

The likes of CoD has more players in a game but their match making is text/menu based

pretty sure had is a more accurate word for it

even if 99% or so of the player base doesn´t play via steam its gotta be under 1m at this point with the hype dying down.
i am surprised how ever, didn´t think poe even was remotely close to 1m players.

that does forgiving them for the game being almost unplayable during peak hours in certain parts of the EU abit easier.
if only those freeloaders had the decency of buying a few supporter packs so ggg could afford a server that wasn´t located in chernobyl or wherever it is.

I actually am starting to think they said "MOARPG"... But either way my point stands because it's too multiplayer oriented to just be classified as an "ARPG".

I wish someone would actually read my OP though and not go crazy over the thread title.

you'll probably find those numbers are monthly players, which is entirely possible, the game had over 3 million accounts before the official launch and after getting on steam and others playing normally the weekly figure is probably in the 100k mark.(maybe more)

Will probably go up since the PC game of the year award

This game is not a MMOARPG, it was said by GGG and chris him self (he explicitly said the game is not a MMO). He called this game a online action RPG.

Edit:
Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast.

Change the tittle to a " . " usually people read the content then for some bizarre reason :).

The dot seems to mystify them!

It's not an MMO, since it's not massively multiplayer. You can only play with a handful of people.
