Your premise that the loot is terrible comes from trading. If you don't trade, the loot is fine. Once you trade for a "good" item, the "good" items from the game now look like crap. It's your choice. You either play the game with traded items or you play the game self found. My advice... try playing self found before you blame the game. It's a lot more rewarding.

No it's not.... I play self found. I've traded only for 2 items so far. After a couple of hundred of hours the no loot , no orbs, no uniques grind starts to get to me. Self found = crafting. I assume since you don't trade that your inventory is empty and all of your orbs are in maps of in items. Good thing that the RNG really helps you with the feeling of progression.

Shagsbeard is right!!

@ Karakay... Why do you need an inventory full of orbs if you're selffound? This idea that you cant ever use orbs apart from trading is so fail.
When you involve trading, you get to nitpick EXACTLY what you need with the exact stats etc. Then finding an upgrade is impossible unless you trade AGAIN. zzzzzzzzzzz

I think self-found players settle for gear that is less tuned but sooooo much more rewarding when you find it yourself.

+1 self-found (if whinging about drops)
+1 crafting (if you play self-found)

Saying that you're self found but for two items proves my point... thanks. It's those two items which have established "good" in your perception and drops will just not compare to that. Your two items were probably selected out of over 1,000,000 items if not more. You let others filter them down for you and then filtered through all the ones they filtered out. I bet it's closer to 10,000,000. So of course you're not going to see drops like those.

And sometimes it's just about knowing what you need to progress to do content.

For instance You've spent all your orbs trying to get HP/Resists/damage/leech.

You've gotten to Vaal merciless and despite your best efforts gambling, you've only managed to come up with 2300 HP,2% mana leech and 2% life leech (by juggling passives),130 damage weapon (that you've had since sometime in cruel),but managed 75% resists (by way of juggling passives).Despite your best efforts to keep at the plus three levels diminishing returns on areas you've had to farm praying for better drops which never happen, leaving you overleveled to get more orbs to gamble.

Your hp is too low, your damage is too low, your leech is too low, your way over leveled to farm orbs and your build is suffering from the constant juggling of passives to fill the gaps.

There's no established perception of better items through trading for them, there is only the knowledge of what's lacking of your current equipment to conquer the next hurdle and realizing you can longer manage to do anything about it.

Yes you could possibly have the patience to defeat vaal in a 30 minute hit and run desync fest (assuming you don't get smashed by his Vaal desync smash) then you reach act3 and are hit with the fact that upcoming content is actually harder than the 66 maps you got in act 2 and that those maps in no way prepped you for whats about to come.

I've posted a level 71 solo self found melee dualists gear on this forum a few times for others perusal and quite frankly it's absolutely shamefull to expect anyone to be remotely satisfied with the state of his equipment at that stage of the game.

Banging away on trivial content for another two months hoping for at least one upgrade can't/won't fix that problem.

So you reroll or wait for the next major content update. =p

When i was still playing i actually had to trade (normally play self-found because trading sucks so hard in this game) on my cleave-dw duelist to get the fun back in the game because my weapons were still from lvl 35 when i was 60ish.

I have been very, very lucky with my drops.

I'm almost completely SF apart from the gloves - I traded my evasion gloves with armor ones with the same stats just to have red sockets.

I dropped a 480+ DPS axe and I've been able to 6L it in a few tries, but I understand I'm in the very VERY lucky bracket.

On the other hand I've been running around with the same shoes since level 50s, chest piece since level 30s, and belt since level 20s (I am now lvl 84).

In a SFL I would have reasons to craft, or to try at least.
In a free trading environment the best use for crafting mats is currency.

When your progression depends on other people selling you what you need, you lose the sense of achievement.
I am content with the loot. Playing guild found, myself and 5 friends. We share everything and we are all in act 3 merciless mainly mapping or grinding for maps. I'm having fun searching for upgrades. Don't make it easier GGG, it's tough but doable and still fun.

The company is called Grinding Gear Games... I don't know what to tell you if you came in expecting no grind...

As for the grind. Once you get to merc difficulty please stop and farm merveil for a while. Seriously, this is one thing that will help almost everyone with their complaints. Just kill Merveil for 2 hours then see where you stand.
PoE not only has much better loot than Diablo 3, grinding for it is more fun as well. Where D3 drops were 99% crap, PoE rewards me with a breadcrumb trail of goodies every time I play. I'm also not spoiled on trading for awesome gear; the stuff I find and craft is good but it doesn't overpower my character.

Seriously, PoE's items rock--the comparison to D3 is ludicrous.

yeah true, i play self found and loot is average to good at most. none of it can be sold more than 2ex. until GGG nerfed mf dual sporker then i found more greater loot to ignore on the floor.

so yeah, this game is great. all you need is buy currency from rmt sites and good skill to flip item, then voila, you can faceroll the wraeclast tycoon.

speaking of nerf, it makes greater build diversity, stack more defensive stat more. yay!

Yeah... YOu can DEFINITELY tell the difference between loot drops playing solo versus playing in a party.. Before 1.0.0, it wasnt this bad...
