Having it as an option might be a good idea.
On my side, viewing numbers of life going down isnt really something i would expect of a dark ambiant rpg. |

mabye the possibility to turn it on or off but not always, its not that cool feeling slaying them if the hp numbers are on top of their heads, not even percentage ( exept skills with doing %dmg if mob has %hp )

In the options is my vote. Personally, I would have them enabled if they aren't intrusive to the gameplay. Maybe have them smaller and semi-hidden or blended within the UI. Not just white arial font above the life and mana.

This should be an option for the user to decide.
As far as clutter, this could be an overlay right on top of the health bar, thus causing no clutter with additional elements. You could also do floating damage numbers as an optional toggle. Leaving little details like this up to the user is key to keeping them happy. With the amount of mechanics already exposed to the player by just looking at equipment and skills it only makes sense to have the hp of the mobs shown as well. I wouldn't worry about cluttering up the options page. If anything more options makes it a more personalized feel. Which I personally like. |

If possible, I'd like an option to also disable monster HP bar all together. It's just too... gamey I guess. If anything, we can add visual cues such as blood splatting out effects from the creature when they are low on health. Gauging how much you have damaged the opponent, especially against bosses with phases and such, to react to its attacks is a real skill. It'd be very nice to see it rewarded here.

Optional seems like the best option, since you can calculate in the spot if you want to use that skill to try and kill the mob in one hit, or if it has little hp left you don't want to waste mp on that. However, floating numbers seems like a terrible idea for this game in my opinion
