after seeing D3 beta streams, I'm now convinced that...

I believe that path of exile has a Good chance
First of all PoE looks like a fresh ARPG with the possability to be a great ARPG, surely its a work in progress, needs more skills, more variety in areas and more variety of monsters in existing areas, and tons of new items types.

Now... Diablo III, i believe whoever saw the live streams and still thinks that the game is WOWish and that itsnt dark enough, is just a mindles hater, D3 just looks amazing!!! as for the comments about how easy it looks, i wonder why ppl are so stupid! a beta should be easy! so the testers that arent probably Diablo's experts can test & do anything in game.

Its obvious that in the full release will not drop so many health globes and health potions will be rares, and many more things will be adjusted.

Lets be realistic, D3 will take the big piece of pie, but PoE will hold i believe, cause it has a uniqueness in skills system and design, that i and im sure many many many more, will wanna keep play too, Ofcourse if all those things that i wrote at the begining will be implemented.
D3 looks and feels good (I played the newest one and it was far from complete but very impressive) even in its current form. It will surley make a ton of $$$.

I will play both, for sure until I decide on which one has the greater staying power.

I think PoE has a great chance to become one of those games you wind up playing for a few years (D1 I played for a looong looong time, D2, not so much :D).

I completely agree with the op. D3 looks like a different WoW now. Its bright with cartoony-ish graphics, and no inventor tetris like the old games. This game looks awesome in the dark fantasy esque style. Also the massive...massive...massive skill tree system makes for probably a million builds and replay value.

PoE CAN survive man, it's taken RPG games into much closer to the actual Diablo style game than I reckon with D3.

While both games are trying to take the ARPG genre in new directions, to me it's very clear which games are made by which type of companies, just from the videos alone.

Diablo 3 is made by a large corporation with high expectations placed upon them. This means they're less willing to do more risky moves with their game, and will rely on more time-tested mechanics. As Blizzard North is no more and the devs are not with Blizzard, development influence is in other hands. The reason why it looks like WoW to so many is because it's probably being developed by some of the same people who worked on WoW - they're just doing what they know works and I can't blame them with that. At the same time, what they're doing just isn't my cup of tea. I can see where it will be someone else's and that Diablo 3 won't be a timeless game like it's predecessor was. That said, I have no doubt that overall it will still be a good game. Diablo 3 is made by a corporation first, devs inexperienced with developing ARPG genres second, and fans last.

Path of Exile is a game being developed by a group of guys who played and loved ARPGs so much that they wanted to make their own. They have no expectations placed upon them as PoE is the first game they've created, and is a F2P game as well. This lets them branch out and experiment with ideas that Diablo 3 could never do: the way active and passive skills are handled, the monetization of items and elimination of gold, custom leagues, etc. To me this is reason enough to be interested in Path of Exile; they're doing something new and exciting rather than relying on time-tested mechanics to meet expectations. Path of Exile is made by fans first, devs inexperienced with developing ARPGs prior to the project second, and a corporation last.

I have an incredible amount of respect for the GGG guys; they're trying some very risky mechanics that no one has ever seen in the genre before... on their first game. Even the removal of gold is something that you need a lot of confidence to do, seeing as it's become standard. I find GGG is taking a much needed look at the genre standard set before them and are asking the hard questions that a lot of development teams would rather not ask.

In short, D3 and PoE are likely going to both be good games, just for different types of people. In my opinion, people familiar with older ARPGs with an open mind to new systems will likely enjoy Path of Exile more, while people who would prefer a more standard approach to the genre with more familiar systems implemented will probably enjoy Diablo 3 more.
I'll play both for sure. I'll just have to wait and see which one i like better
This thread is funny because after watching the D3 streams I don't want to play POE any more lol.

This post should be voided since it's the other way around. D3 is doing the new things while POE is not...
